Farscape: "The War for the Uncharted Territories" starts this week...

This Wednesday, there are three Farscape titles hitting your local comic shop.

First off, Strange Detractors by series creator Rockne S. O'Bannon, KRAD, and Will Sliney is being released in trade paperback for the first time, so if the hardcover price scared you off, now's your chance.

Next, the final issue of Farscape: Scorpius by Rockne, David Mack, and Gordon Purcell finishes off the "Glorious Basterds" arc, and sets up...

Farscape #13 by Rockne, me, and Will, which kicks off the third year of Farscape comics with a one-year-long storyline called "The War for the Uncharted Territories." Nothing will be the same after this.

I never got a chance to watch Farscape, but I saw the first few episodes and enjoyed them. I was going to watch more on Netflix, but they took them down! Very sad, because I love the fact that Jim Henson's company do the puppet work!

The first one you talked about is a book, yours and Farscape: Scorpius are comic books right?

The last time I looked, Farscape DVDs were hideously expensive. Is that still the case? I suppose you could hire them.

^ I've seen the complete series for as low as $55.

They re-released the series in the last year as a boxset. It's $99 at Best Buy for the whole thing, but I'm sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere.

OKay, question:

I have read the first three hardcovers in the series (The Beginning of the End of the Beginning, Strange Detractors, and Gone and Back). I know we had a thread a few months back asking about the fourth installment (the title of which I can't remember) and that it was not going to be released in hardcover anymore. Any news on that book?

I miss Farscape. :( I can't believe that even Ben Browder seems to have vanished from TV. He should have his own frakkin' series by now! :wtf:

And no, Stargate doesn't count. :p Good series!

I've not been really reading the comics because the library doesn't have any of the trades but will check out "The War of the Uncharted Territories" it sounds epic.

Re: Farscape: "The War for the Uncharted Territories" starts this week

Heck, I only just got The Beginning of the End of the Beginning a couple days ago. Everyone putting out comics in hardcover nowadays has made my waits for TPBs even longer. :(

Thanks for posting that--there's more information there than I've been able to track down anywhere else.

Are Volume 4 and 5 coming to hardcover? I have the hardcover editions of the first 3 and they're lovely.

Does the D'Argo series tie into the post-series comics in any major way?

I believe Keith mentioned in the Trek Literature forum that unfortunately the hardcovers didn't sell well but that subsequent volumes will be released in paperbacks. I, too, love the hardcover editions and I've been waiting for Amazon to have the paperback editions for the volumes available (both the mainline and D'argo flashbacks). I'm dying for more Farscape comics.

I've read Volumes 1 & 2 and D'Argo's Lament and I enjoyed them quite a bit. Good writing and artwork that truly captured the spirit of the show. Thanks KRAD for posting the guide. I didn't realize there had been that many FS comics published. The new war storyline sounds pretty intriguing.

Re: Farscape: "The War for the Uncharted Territories" starts this week

Meh, just comics? I want another miniseries.

Re: Farscape: "The War for the Uncharted Territories" starts this week

I don't do individual comic books, do they have collections of them bound in a single book that would be easier to collect and better?

Re: Farscape: "The War for the Uncharted Territories" starts this week

Where do the Scorpius comics fit into the story? Are the covers listed on your site in order?
Yes, the stories in my guide are in order both of publication and timeline. Basically, the eight issues of the Scorpius comic are simultaneous with issues #5-12 of the Farscape ongoing.

Sadly, no. The hardcovers didn't sell as well as BOOM! had hoped, so the hardcovers are being rereleased in trade paperback and then subsequent volumes will go straight to TPB.

Does the D'Argo series tie into the post-series comics in any major way?
Not directly -- D'Argo's Lament is a third-season adventure focusing on D'Argo and Jool that includes some backstory on the big guy, D'Argo's Trial is D'Argo's full backstory from when he left the Luxan Army and met Lo'Laan to when the show started, and D'Argo's Quest is what he was doing between seasons 3 & 4.

I want to know what happened to the webisodes?
The credit crunch of 2008 happened. Suddenly, Henson lost their financing for the webisodes, and finding new financing in this crap economy we find ourselves in has been challenging to say the least. However, Henson hasn't abandoned the project, but they need to do it right and to do so means beaucoup bucks. They can't pull a Dr. Horrible and do this on the cheap -- in order to be Farscape, it needs at least something of a budget.....

We're doing four-issue story arcs that are then collected into hardcovers (some) and trade paperbacks (all going forward). So yeah, the plan is to release each storyline in a collected form, and many of them already have been.
