Fargo, season 2

I was wondering when the UFO was going to reappear in the story.

So many incompetent cops. Other than Lou and Hank, a real collection of nitwits. Season one was full of them also.

Oh, and Martin Freeman as the narrator...

^Yes, noticed that right off. Nice touch.

The whole scene at the hotel was both disturbing and oddly hilarious.

I can't wait to see the end.

Just like last season with Malvo I'm hoping that Hanzee gets away in the end but I just know he'll get a brutal death next week.

Really? He's such a cold blooded killer. He has no redeeming characteristics. Malvo felt sorry for the little nebbish at least and tried to help him without any profit for himself. He seemed to have a little empathy, plus he talked Gus out of making him kill him. He could have just shot him.

Yeah, we at least got know more about Malvo--who was still all kinds of freaking evil--but at least kinda helped Lester out.

We only know that Hanzee has faced a lifetime of discrimination and it has worn him down--but we really don't know much else. He was loyal to the Gerhardts...until he wasn't. He's mostly a mystery to us.

I find Hanzee a lot more believable than Malvo, and a lot more 'Rootable' as a bad guy. Like, you could picture Hanzee being the protagonist of a Tarantino film in a second, or a spaghetti Western. If it were a movie in a genre where all the characters are killers, Hanzee is the guy you'd be rooting for.

Malvo helped out Lester but only because he does what he feels like on a whim and Lester was giving him an excuse to murder someone. He was just a psychopath.

I wouldn't be surprised if he either lives or dies but I'm sure they'll make it awesome.

^I think that's probably true. Malvo was a bit over-the-top; he was definitely the mythic, ridiculously powerful baddie. Hanzee does seem at least a bit closer to reality.

The way I see it, Fargo Season Two is better than Season One, There arn't any threads of stories that haven't really gone anywhere. I do hope that Bilbo comes back as the narrator for the final episode and because of what he did to Jessie (yes that Jessie from Breaking Bad), Ed dies in a comically obscene way, oh and Lou gets that arrow to the knee.

I hope Hank recovers enough to put Hanzee down. If not, Lou will do. But the way he orchestrated the annihilation of the Gerhardts was masterful.

The "Massacre" shootout had a lot of pieces and was very well done. And a surprising score for Detective Schmidt, until his prisoners knocked him out. I liked that they showed Lou reloading his .357; I am an inveterate shot-counter.

I don't know what to make of the flying saucer thing. The episode was framed as coming from a book, so the audience is supposed to be conscious that it's not really objective. Just as the show is a fictional "true story," the "history" might also be fictional. How it ties in to the arcane writing the sheriff has been working on will be interesting to see. But the "aliens" do seem to be against the bad guys.

As for Malvo in S1, he only helped Lester because he was some kind of strife-causing force that had to sow mayhem everywhere. And Lester was himself a murderous sociopath, so helping him was assuredly not a good thing. Both seasons are great, I don't have a favorite.

WOW. That was a great ending; not entirely what I expected. I liked how surprisingly sweet some parts were and how disturbing other parts were.

I loved seeing the family all together, but seeing Hanzee walk out towards those kids made me shudder. I wonder if those kids are supposed to be the hit and his partner from season 1?

It's pretty obvious that Peggy is really bonkers--not just totally self-centered--but as Hank put it--"touched."

So, is Hanzee going to become the guy in season 1 who sits down to dinner, surrounded by goons and yells, "Not apprehend, dead! Head in a bag."

I also loved the return of the theme music; it was a very nice way to point toward the future.

Man, I don't want to spoil it yet for anyone who hasn't seen it, but that was an excellent finale. So many easter eggs pertaining to past Coen films and future Fargo episodes. ;)

Oh yeah, whenever the original ballad kicks into full gear it gets me, so haunting and so beautiful.

Wonderful finale, too many great scenes to count.
And the promotion for our brand new king...

Yeah, Mike's ending was perfect.

I liked the way even when she was in the police car Peggy was out of touch with reality. Talking about the struggles of modern women to equivocate hitting a man with her car and just driving home.

That's an interesting thought that those kids on the playground were Lester and the bully but I think they'd be teenagers in 1979. But it makes you wonder if we've seen Hanzee before somewhere with a different face.
