"Fargo" becomes a minii-series

Wow, did not see that coming! (Edit: This is in reference to the beginning of the episode)

As soon as Burty-Burt mentioned his brother in witness protection, everything made sense. I, however, did not think he'd kill everyone!

The ending, though, was a bit more predictable.

I want to hate Lester, after sending in his wife to get killed, with him pretty much knowing what was going to happen. He is still coming off as sympathetic, despite telling his wife to put up her hood, knowing that would mask that it was her and not him (as if Malvo would care).

Holy crap! That was fucking harsh of Lester.

And what the HELL was he thinking? If Malvo says, "Is this what you want," you say NO! No, no, no! Why would you go after the guy when you know for a fact he killed two people (and suspect he killed more)?

I hope Lester gets whatever he has coming.

That's one of the things I love about this show, the fact that I want Lester to get what's coming for him, but while I'm watching, I'm worried about him. It's a mix of emotions, as I enjoy seeing him weasel his way out of things (even when the weasling is so bad, it's an insult to weasels, such as the end of the episode).

So, was Lorne a dentist before becoming a hitman? Is he talented enough to pick something like that up so quickly? Or is he just another in a string of "supernatural characters" (he has aspects of a trickster god, his Biblical plaguing of Stavros, not to mention his comment to Lou about the pie being the best he's eaten since the Garden Eden), giving him the ability to assume whatever form he needs to be at the moment (minister, dentist, etc.)?

Wow, until now I enjoyed watching Lester weasling out of tight situations, after that I just want to see him get what he deserves.

I knew what he was doing with the coat. But the hood comment, that just sealed it. And this wife truly loved and idolized him (Hell, she even lied to a police officer for him, when she told Molly she was the one who decided to leave Las Vegas!).

So is this series worth watching?

I skimmed through the first episode (and I do mean skim; just fast forwarded some of it to see what the quality looked like), and I liked the cast and everything. However, I wasn't a big fan of the original movie. I mean, I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't see it as the cult comedy classic so many other people did. Certainly not compared to other Coen Brothers films like O! Brother, Where Art Thou or The Big Lebowski.

But, that said, I do have an open mind and would be willing to give it another chance if it is, in fact, really good. For comparison's sake, I love Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and other shows of that ilk. Is the quality of storytelling anything at all like those?

This is a fantastic series. If you're intelligent enough to not need "Michael Bay Explosions!" every five seconds and you like having to actually pay attention to what is going on, then you'll enjoy it. I think this series is fantastic: the cinematography is as good as any major motion picture, the characters' mastery of understatement works well with a believable development of ordinary people in bizarre, ridiculous or even horrific circumstances.

Is this a good series? Yah, you betcha.

I watched the original movie for the first time in March, in preparation for this show. I have the same feelings about the movie. It was entertaining, but nothing special.

The show, however. Holy Hell, the show is amazing!

Molly finally got appreciation for her police work; that was nice to see. I really hope nothing bad happens to her little family. Especially her dad.

It was like they recognized each other as being on opposite sides of the law. Very tense scene.

I'm definitely digging it. :)

I have no idea what to make of it, of course, and I like how they try to fool you in the beginning into thinking its a rehash of the movie (kinda like the recent From Dusk Till Dawn TV series was), but then it quickly becomes evident that its its own thing.

I especially loved seeing all the tributes to other Coen Brothers films. The one that jumped at me the most was the promotion for White Russians in the diner. :D

Steven Root's character said "friendo"..

"A hellcat" in bed. Also the callback to the Barton Fink hallway.

Spoilers...

The time jump has taken this series from very good to incredible. The way getting away with murder allowed Lester's sociopathic nature to come to the fore... wow. He thinks he's on Malvo's level now!?

I was a little surprised: Malvo did all that work for $100K? I thought it would be a lot higher.

The scene between Thornton and Carradine was one of the best I've seen in years.

Linda was set up as so sweet, I knew she was going down. I kind of hoped they would talk about why she lied to Molly, but no big deal.

Malvo telling the kids about the murder. He just seems to like to sow chaos and discontent. That and his identity changing abilities make him seem like a mythological character or some kind of force of nature.

I haven't looked forward to a show like this since... Breaking Bad, at least. Maybe The Wire.

Yeah, poor Linda proved her loyalty to Lester by lying to Molly and he just set her up to be killed, so coldly.

Lester has gotten cocky. He got away with murder, framed his brother, screwed his high school bully's wife, turned his life around, landed a hot new wife, become a big success, and just been named Salesman of the Year, don't ya know.

He think he's untouchable and isn't about to get brushed off by his old partner in crime. Or so he thinks . . . .
