The husband and I just watched this ep again a week ago. One of our favorites. I always get chills when we see flashes of Mulkahey/Weyoun and Ryan/Dukat beating up on Benny/Sisko. I think this is because we never see Weyoun get physically violent during the course of DS9 even though we know he is a very malevolent personality. To see him in action has a profound effect.

Anyway, I am going to have to be so careful to not smile like a nut or start talking like Joseph Sisko/The Preacher because I will be uttering a phrase from this ep when I lector at mass in a couple of weeks.

The dialogue from the ep is: "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith."

The text I will be reading says: "I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith."

I know I will get chills when I say it. I always enjoyed the religious/spiritual motif in DS9, so this will be really cool.

You're right, this is a great episode. I'm still trying to figure out whether Ben Sisko or Benny Russell was the dream, and which was the reality.

DS9 has a lot of dialogue that is food for spiritual thought. In an earlier episode, Sisko states that it is easy to be a saint in paradise. Which is so true. During good times, anyone can be kind and loving. We are most tested to do the right thing during hard times.

Many are put off by Brook's acting in this episode. I think he pulls it off quite nicely. Racism isn't a new theme in a Trek story, but it has never hit this close to 'real' racism that happened, and sexism for that matter, in pre-60s America.

Bravo Zulu!!
