Besides a great storyline, noticed the background scenery and costumes/props. As good of job as I've ever seen on the small screen of replicating the look/feel of the 50's. As good as Back to the Future, IMHO.

The writers/producers/directors/others did their homework on fashion, furniture, cars, and other backdrop items to produce a near-masterpiece.

If it was on the lot and not shot OL in large city, then that makes it even more amazing.
Its hard to blv that the same Paramount that made this gave us the great plot twists like: Capt to Lizard,& Spirit Animal Guides.

Was the New York street on the Paramount lot? What else has it been used for?

I believe so. Probably the same street for "City On The Edge Of Forever" from TOS.

Yeah it was shot in the back lot, I think Benny's apartment is the same apartment Picard and company had when they went back to San Fran for Data, at least the exterior. You can also see some of the same exteriors that were used for Sisko's restaurant. However they did a great job of redressing the exteriors and Far Beyond the Stars was a great episode! You can go online and compare all the images of the lot used in each of the episodes to see how they altered them.
