Just for the record, I figured out the final twist just seconds after the film started.
Right when the scene of Grindelwand showing his back to the camera faded out and the scene of Percival Graves in the exact same stance faded in. They basically telegraphed it right then and there.
Stupid me just couldn't figure out why no one seemed to recognize who he was and thought maybe they didn't know exactly what Grindelwald really looked like.
For some reason it didn't occur to me that he changed his entire appearance via magic because the hairstyle seemed so similar with the exception of hair color.

Wow.

It generally takes me a while to get my bearings in a movie. By the time I get a better sense of who's good, who's bad, and who's important, I may have forgotten what they were doing in the opening scene. So that went right by me. My hat is off to you, sir.

I am not actually a fan of the Harry Potter movies but I might become a fan after this movie. This movie was really good. It shattered my expectations. The movie was well casted especially Eddie Redmayne. i gave it a B+.

It's good but I wanted more story about Newt and I felt there is a lot of set up in the film for later movies to explore. By the time we get to the 5th movie of this new series it will be 2024 or after. I would have been happy with 3 films.

I sure hope we don't have to wait two years for each one!

I've seen it twice. I'm not that much of a fan of the Harry Potter movies, which mostly disappointed me compared to the books, so I was really looking forward to seeing one with no preconceptions.... Unlike the original series, it's dark and disturbing from the very beginning. I'm surprised no one here commented on the really creepy way Graves manipulates/grooms Creedence. *shudders* But JK did a good job of balancing the darkness with humor (Jacob, some of the beasts, etc.) and appealing characters. I enjoyed the Jacob-Queenie relationship, even though it wasn't entirely convincing. The casting, sets, costumes, and cinematography were all excellent.

Definitely an A from me.

Took one of my daughters along to the theatre, we had a blast and loved it straight away!
It brought us both right back to that universe of magic!
We both had avoided most spoilers and such, dunno about the mumbling??
I am used to British tv and movies, so no trouble hearing it, but in a few places the music where perhaps a wee bit too intrusive!

Fantastic Beasts just crossed the $600 million dollar threshold and has joined the top 10 highest grossing films of the year. It's catching up on Dr Strange, the dimension mystics!

I liked it a lot, my favourite magic film of 2016. enjoyed it more than dr strange which was the same old generic MCU movie.

why I liked it more than strange was that the story telling and plot of the film was a lot stronger than dr strange.


Marvel needs to learn from JK Rowling. the CGI is meant to support the plot of the movie, not the other way around.

Watched it a second time yesterday and it holds up really well. You definitely see a wisp of Creedence escaping at the end (the first time I watched I thought it evaporated but no it went over a ledge) I also noticed that Graves has Scorpion pins for his neck tie. Also, Tina is on the verge of tears in EVERY SINGLE SCENE for some reason

I am a H.P. fan but for some reason I had lower expectations going in FBaWtFT. But I was pleasantly surprised, I think it's a good start for a new series. Looking forward to watching more of Grindelwald and Dumbledore's story.

My daughter said it was a bit weird watching this movie as there was no book to fall back on. We couldn't point out 'Hey, they left THAT out' or 'Why did they change that?'

We saw it again this weekend and husband wondered why it was at the end when the magical obliviating rain was falling how come it affected the people inside who were not touched by the rain and if in that one apartment scene it looked like the husband was 'awake' and aware of what was going on. Was he a wizard passing as a no-mage?

That quickly? What if they didn't drink any water? Ok...it's magic.

But did anyone else notice the 'dad' in that one scene He just didn't seem to be as 'out of it' as everyone else in the room.

Maybe some people just respond a bit differently than others. They forget more deeply or come out of it more quickly. We know that Jacob's memories were only partially obliterated -- not just from the critters he bakes, but from his sort of recognizing Queenie.

I liked it - B +. It doesn't seem to have the grandiosity that the Potter films did though. We'll see.
Can someone explain to me why the magical are forced to take steamships/trains/cars etc. to travel when they have the ability to teleport themselves anywhere?

True. It isn't only him though. Many of the characters throughout Potter lore seem to only use teleportation powers when the story-line calls on it. Just a nitpick.

B+ for me, shattered expectations. I was really going in thinking this was going to be a lame rehash, but it was truly quite good fun. Engaging, funny, thrilling, amazing. Made me wanna re-watch Harry Potter straight away.

It's possible the American wizard community enforces restrictions on non-citizens teleporting into the U.S. It may be a way to a) help prevent the immigration of magical creatures and b) keep the no-mages from getting suspicious about newcomers unable to explain how they arrived.
