Fans, why do you like TOS?

As a young child back in '70, the colorful sets and gadgetry pulled me in. I gravitated to the show initially for that reason. In '73 I got home from school one day to hear the phone ring. It was my grandmother who called to say "Star trek" is back on TV right now on channel 29. Hurry". From there, the chemistry and synergy between "the big three" drew me in closer - especially the energy and heroic efforts of Kirk (Shatner). By the time high school was nearing its conclusion, they had put Trek back on up here in Toronto and I AGAIN fell in love with the brilliance of the stories, the energy, chemistry and drama....while keen the the subtle applied brilliance of the camp aspect. In my mid-forties now, I love few things more than kicking back late on a Friday evening after my family has gone to bed than to put on an original TOS episode. It's comfort food for my soul and I lovingly accept it as being what it is...imperfect, sometimes over the top, entertaining, intelligent....and downright fun.

I honestly just like the whole mix of elements. It had a good cast, a good and well executed premise that it kept to. While it wasn't perfect and while I didn't always agree with some design and story execution decisions; it was always a fun and entertaining show to watch.

I also really like the fact that while striving to be 'better' human beings, the crew was not perfect, and didn't always make the 'right' or 'best choice.Personally, that was amn element that was largely missing in the great majority of the 'modern' 24th century era series. IMO - GR had gone of the deep end, and tried to retcon Star trek into being about the perfect, utopian human society; and TOS, while it showed 'better' humans; they were by NO MEANS perfect.
