Fans, why do you like ENT?

Although TOS is still my #1 fvorite Star Trek series; ENT is firmly #2 by a good margin. What did I like:

1) It showed us an era that had largely been untouched by other Star Trek series and films.

2) The cast of the show had the best on screen chemistry since the original Star Trek series (imo).

3) It was the closet in tone and execution to TOS in that the characters WERE NOT portrayed as perfect, well adjusted humans. They made mistakes, and often even with well meaning intentions often made what would be considered bad, or at best questionable decisions. They strived to be better but in the end were still human beings; and this I felt was missiing from the majority of modern 24th century era Star Trek.

Was it perfct; and did I always agree with the production decisions and execution? Nope. But truth be told, I could say the same thing regarding TOS.

It (like the majority of other modern Star Trek series) really hit its stride during seasons 3 and 4; and its a shame it didn't at least get a 5th season (imo). And to be honest, I thought TNG REALLY started going downhill fast in Seasons 6 and 7, did like DS9 through Season 7; but if there was any justice or real honest 'quality control'; VOY would have been axed after The 37's, which is the last episode of that show I bothered to watch.

- When it lived up to the promise of it's premise, it was wonderful: more vital and alive than the sterile world of the 24th century, filled with unknowns and danger that couldn't always be waved away with the particle of the week.

- Canon porn.

- The crew's camaraderie was more believable than any of the shows with the possible exception of DS9.

- Shran.

- I dug the ship.

I had also grown extremely tired of time travel after Voyager. But to me, the more interesting stuff in the past was the past itself, not some time war.

I think after this movie, we're all even more time-travelled out. Please no more time travel plots in the next couple movies!

Deep within the confines of Paramount's secret lair, underneath the giant "H" of the Hollywood sign (it used to be under the D, but they had to move when Conan destroyed it.)

Exec #1: So, JJ, we are pretty happy with Star Trek. We love it, general audiences love it, fans embraced it.
JJ: Critics liked it too!
Exec #2: We don't care what they think. They see the movie for free which they think gives them the right to say if something is good or not. If they don't pay, their word has no value.
JJ: Uh...okay?
Exec #1: What do you have in mind for the sequel?
JJ: Well, we are still thinking about that. A couple of ideas we are tossing around are the Klingons. Maybe Kirk can fight them or something. And Spock, see we can have--
Exec #2: That's nice. What about time travel?
JJ: Time...time travel?
Exec #1: Yes. Time travel. All the good Star Trek movies have it.
JJ: Well...we just did that in the last movie.
Exec #1 & #2: .....
JJ: And according to my underlings, the past few Trek shows have used time travel a lot.
Exec #2: Bah! That's the past! You are living in the past. Trek is about the future! We want the future. And that includes time travel in "Star Trek 2"!
JJ: Wha...what? Living in the past? You just referenced past statistics. Besides, wouldn't the next one will be number twelve?
Exec #2: No. Number 2! We destroyed all the previous movies from existence in favor of the new franchise!
Exec #1: Good idea.
Exec #2: I got it from a movie.
JJ: ???
Exec #1: Look, the people like the time travel. That's why the movie was good.
JJ: I don't think that--
Exec #2: We want time travel. And Khan. And give more screen time to Scotty's little sidekick.
Exec #1: Yeah, good idea. Kids love him.
Exec #2: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Exec #1: Plush dolls?
Exec #2: Oh yeah! Boo-ya!
Exec #1 & #2 high-five.
JJ: Um...hello?
Exec #2: You're still here?
Exec #1: Go make Star Trek 2.
JJ leaves and pulls out cell phone.
JJ: Hello, Rick? Yeah, you were right. They are morons.

1. Broken Bow. My favorite pilot of all the Trek series.

2. FX. Great production values.

3. Uniforms, baseball caps, the interiors of the NX-01; also liked the look of the Vulcan and Andorian ships.

4. The last two seasons. Though I enjoyed Regeneration, the episode where Archer went to Rura Penthe, and The Expanse I largely didn't pay attention to Season 2. I got back into it in Season 3 and really enjoyed almost every episode of Season 4.

5. Villains. Enter the Romulans. Though this came about too late IMO, I'm glad they did factor into the show. Same with Section 31, Terra Prime, Orions, Tholians (though more could've been done with them). I also didn't have a problem with the Xindi.

6. MACOs

7. Some of the cast. Trip, T'Pol, and Shran left the biggest impressions. I didn't warm to Archer until he got much colder in Season 3 and they didn't do much with him in Season 4 outside of the Home episode which was one of the best in the series regarding his character development. Though I thought Linda Park was hot, I can't say I was a big fan of the Hoshi character. The potential was definitely there but it was largely unfulfilled. Reed and Phlox were okay, but Travis was a genial cipher.

:guffaw:

Those are the Execs who approved the destruction of one of the most iconic worlds in Star Trek alright...
