Fans, why did the ratings slide?

I forget the actual figures now, but wasn't Enterprise only shown in 70-80% of households?? That may have something to do with it.

RAMA

UPN at its peak had about the same coverage as the Sci-Fi Channel at the time. That's why I always found the rating debates comparing nuBSG and ENT interesting because we had people on the one hand saying nuBSG was such a huge hit for Sci-Fi because it was 'so well written'; yet ENT usually beat nuBSG's ratings by a fair margin with ONLY the 'Network airing' counted (the weekend airings of ENT were never included, had they been overall rating would have been higher); while nuBSG used the cable ratings model counting all airings of a giveen week - YET many of the same people who praised nuBSG, liked to clain ENT's ratings were so low because the writing sucked.

I watched the first 2 seasons regularly. I was a big TNG fan and LOVED DS9. I stopped watching Voyager because I thought the uneven storytelling from week to week and the old Trek formula of 4 act, one hour stand alone episodes was becoming tired. Unfortunately, Ent continued Voyagers trend (at least, for me). I lived in an area that didn't get UPN for seasons 3-4, so when it was cancelled, I thought "no loss, they asked for it by hashing the same old crap out and expecting us to keep buying it".
It was several years later when I finally saw seasons 3-4. I think the Xindi season is one of the best seasons of Trek ever and really enjoyed the clever writing and 3 episode arcs in year 4. If they had started the whole series with year 3, I would have gotten behind it instead of being disappointed. Now, I'm sorry it was canceled.
