Fans Want To See TNG Cast One More Time

TNG was the most widely watched and most successful of all of the Trek iterations. I firmly believe that it will be back in some form. I'm with those that see the 24th century as an era as opposed to seeing TNG, DS9, and VOY as three separate series. My hope is that Paramount will put people like Frakes and Burton in charge of the TV part of the franchise and let JJA handle the films. This era belongs on TV as either a weekly series or as a miniseries; I prefer the latter.

TNG and the others had ensamble casts and were more character and relationship driven. While TNG focused on its 7 main characters, DS9 expanded that premise by including many peripheral characters. I would want the next series to show us a few familiar characters along with several new ones with at least one non-humanoid CGI alien.

At one time I watched TNG because it was the only ST available. For me it was OK but not gripping or compelling like TOS. If movie goers see this film, fall in love with the format, characters and adventurous spirit, they aren't going to want to go the TNG route.

I didn't think Paramount was smart enough to try recasting the classic TOS instead of just throwing out another spin-off. Since we know they will do this, I won't accept less.

If they're busy directing and executive producing new TNG they won't have much time to appear on-screen as well.

Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner have other things they want to do. Gates McFadden probably gets choreography work and never had much to do in the four ST movies. Michael Dorn has said he's happy not to wear those forehead bumps again - the glue has permanently affected his skin - so that leaves... Marina Sirtis.

I don't want them all just Frakes as Capt. Riker, Burton as his XO, and Sirtis as his wife/counselor. The rest of the cast is new with a few exceptions. Perhaps we will see one or two of the other show's casts as a regular or semi regular but not on the ship. That's all I want. I want it right now. Please.

If they make another TNG movie I'll see it. If they make a DS9 movie, I'll definitely go see it. Heck, I even go see VOY and ENT movies.

But if STXI is very successful then there would be at least 2 more TOS movies with the new cast. Doing a trio of movies is popular these days in Hollywood. And by the time new TOS movies are done it would be way too late to do a TNG movie with the original cast. And a TNG remake/prequel with a new cast is unlikely, though I guess it's possible.

I don't think they'd directly go from the recast TOS crew to the re-recast TOS crew. I've been wrong before...

By the "the new cast" I meant the dudes that are in STXI. They probably have them under contract for 2 more movies. Yeah, they are not going to recast anytime soon.

And I didn't say they'd be replaced anytime soon. I don't see them sticking around beyond the three plus one or two, but that alone would be around 8-12 years.

*Saw Nemesis in theaters and as such hides accordingly*

I was also a very impressionable twelve at the time, as I recall, and my adoration of Patrick Stewart kept warring with "Eeek! Gross-naked-scary-bald-man! Make it stop!"

In all honesty, I'd probably show up to see him play Picard even if he was so old a walker was required. XD

In theory, you could recast TNG or any of the other series but you have to ask why.

The acid test for whether the characters are worth keeping is if you would want to see new actors in those roles, because those characters are just too good to lose. TOS passes that test; some of the DS9 characters do too (Kira, Dukat, Garak, Quark, Odo - and I think they could do a better job casting Sisko the second time around.)

But TNG, VOY and ENT - nah. Inventing new characters would be better. The only one I want back is Trip and really what I want is Connor Trinneer in a good role again.

And if the characters aren't worth keeping so much that you'd recast the roles, why are the worth going back to with aging actors we've grown sick and tired of?

OMG... I LOVED the guy who played Sisko. I would like a DS9 movie personally. That was my favorite besides TOS. I am not really looking forward to the new movie at all.

I would like to see another TNG movie; perhaps because I've never seen Nemesis. I have seen Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection. I thought GEN and FC were awesome, and INS was pretty good. I'm just not very critical when it comes to Trek, I guess. I'm looking forward to Trek XI. Personally, I would like to see a Voyager movie, even though that's all but impossible.

Okay, what stopped you?

I'm curious how any avid ST fan could let new ST pass them by. Even if I'd heard that a particular ST episode, movie, novel or comic was dreadful, I'd still be determined to check it out for myself, and as early as possible.

"Nemesis" was disappointing for many reasons, but there's still plenty in it of interest to me.

For a long time in the early 80s, it seemed like I was in a very small minority who liked ST:TMP. If I'd read reviews, and listened to too many people, maybe I'd never have gone - and it remains my favourite movie of all time.

First Contact and Generations were good TNG movies. They had nice visuals, good acting, and nice moments by the entire cast. I wouldn't mind another TNG movie, but Nemesis and Insurrection were just awful. I want another big, galaxy wide story.

Loved TNG, and still do. Would I want to see another TNG movie?

Yes, if it was good. Would I prefer it to this TOS reboot? I'm happy with either (provided they're good).

Do I think it's possible? Well, in the sense I think the TNG cast could still physically play their roles, yes, (with the notable exception of Brent Spiner; some odd manner of explanation would have to be used if he were to play Data again). But I don't think it's likely, generously speaking I'd wager it's highly improbable.

Would I want another TNG movie? No. Would mean some kind of massivce reset to bring Data back. And no, B4 is no Data. The problem with the last 2 films is the producers and writers pabndered too much to Stewart and Spiner to ensure their involvement. They aren't writers, they're actors.

Would I like to see the cast in a different ST movie, having moved on from NEM? Yes. Picard having retired, become an archaeologist and found some interesting alien artefacts (but PLEASE, no hat an bullwhip! ;)). The Titan (though only brielly).

Hell, if Dr Who can bring its franchises together for one glorious season finale, why can't Paramount find the stones to pull all its franchses together into one, maybe two movies. Hell, even a trilogy! No Sisko, no Data, no anyone else who died, just those who moved on in the Trek universe and how they changed. That would rock, and rock hard.

Personally I always wanted to send Voyager out again, with Kira Nerys as XO. But that might just be me.

DS9 should be the center of any future Trek film cause it's a space station. People can come and go all the time. Voyager, or the E D, or Riker's ship could be there for some mission to the Gamma Quadrant or Badlands. Maybe there's some rouge Dominion out there trying to form a coalition or something? Maybe the Borg come back through the wormhole?

I am sorry but the NG Brand has a fork sticking so deeply into it it has disappeard under its skin. NEM did more damage to TNG than ST 5 did to TOS and cannot easily recover from that wound. If you want more stories read novels, it's all your going to get for now. Perhaps, just perhaps, it too will someday, in the distant future, spawn a script worthy of spending $150 million to bring it back, (more if Spiner and Stewart are involved ;-p) but don't hold your breath.
