Fans Want To See TNG Cast One More Time

LeVar Burton on STXI and TNG crew-

"At the end of the day I’m pretty certain that a lot of the fan base would like to see the Next Generation cast do one more turn around the galaxy, and I guess the performance of this next movie will have a lot to do with whether that comes to pass. It will make people see whether there’s an appetite for Star Trek again. So I have really mixed emotions. I haven’t quite decided how I feel about this new picture. My life is going to go on and Star Trek will always be an important part of it. Whether we do another movie or not is not in my control and the most important thing to me is that I have lasting friendships and memories from the seven years I spend on the show. And that’s better than the price of Latinum"

Nice sentiment from LeVar, but as my father used to say, the fan base can want in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first.

If LeVar truly believes what he said, he must be channeling his blind character instead of reality.

I for one wouldn't mind another crack at the TNG era on the big screen (besides what we'll see in XI). I think there's a better chance of a mini-series or a direct to dvd movie than a full out feature.

My optical implants have... failed! I'm unable to see reality!

This is just not happening, if they did it, the only selling point would be "the return of data" - I have no desire to see a 62 year old data.

Wow...and here I always thought he was one of the more in-touch-with-reality TNG cast members who hadn't overinflated their importance beyond all reason.

Guess I was wrong about that.

Let's review, shall we?

Generations - pretty much sucked. The TOS crew were the best part.

First Contact
- decent flick, but nowhere near as good as TWOK or TSFS.

Insurrection
- sucked pretty hard and, as an added bonus, illustrated how utterly irrelevant the flagship crew was to the Dominion War effort.

Nemesis
- sucked so hard that I still hear it sucking, 6 years after the fact, and firmly believe that if earth ever gets sucked into a black hole, that black hole will have been created via the theatrical release of Nemesis.

Oh yeah...I just can't WAIT for the next TNG film.

Besides, after Nemesis, didn't Patrick Stewart try to put as much distance as possible between himself and even the possibility of another TNG film? If he's out, and Brent Spiner is out...then who does LeVar think is gonna carry this movie? Frankes and Sirtis?

Oh wait...they couldn't even carry the ENT finale without pissing off...well....pretty much every Trek fan in the universe who was actually still watching.

Two hour cash-in TV show with Frakes on Titan with a hot young crew shaking their booties? yes. Film? no.

I'd like to see it if its good. I mean like First Contact quality. If its anything like Nemesis or Insurrection you can count me out.

I'd have a passing interest in seeing one more go-round with the original TNG actors as written and produced by fresh talent who might hopefully have a real passion for the show. I think enough time has passed that TNG fans have filtered into the business in noticeable numbers (Roberto Orci continues to speak positively of it, for example).

However, that interest would be conditional on a lot of factors (such as whether Stewart and Spiner saw fit to throw their weight around in aid of getting a script that suited their whims, which was such a drag, especially on INS and NEM; if Spiner wants to do musical numbers, he can sign on for convention cabarets).

Same here. I think they could get another good movie out of the TNG cast with new talented people in charge of the directing and script. People who can make the TNG crew feel fresh and new again (like they hopefully will for Star Trek XI). I do get a little sad when I think about, TNG which was a fun TV series, to go out on such a bad note. I'd love for them have one last great adventure and have TNG era end at a high point instead.

I would like to see one more TNG movie. I know there is almost no chance of that happening but I still hope someday we get one more.

Stewart is 68. McFadden, Frakes, and Spiner are in their late 50s. Dorn, Sirtis, and Burton are in their early 50s. As a group, they are really no older now than the TOS cast was at the release of TUC. So, age shouldn't really be an issue for one more go with the TNG cast.

The issue? NEM was the only Trek movie to lose money (and not a little bit). Paramount probably began to feel Trek had played itself out. When ENT failed, that probably added to the feeling that something truly different was necessary to kickstart things. It could've been Berman with Jendresen's script, but a truly radical change was made, and it was Abrams.

There's no reason not to believe a final TNG movie after NEM could have been very good and profitable. I'd like to think there was one more "All Good Things" qualilty of story left in them. But, in that post-NEM Trek environment, giving the TNG cast one more go would've been a luxury and sentimental journey which would've capped the franchise, not revitalized it.

Anyone else see how Levar's comments shadow those of the TOS crew and how they felt when TNG moved to the big screen?

Indeed, but at least TOS crew had "The Undiscoved Country" to cap off their film career. No, I am not counting "Generations," even if Kirk, Scotty and Chekov were the best things in it....

This fan wants to see them once more. Nemesis didn't give them a proper send off.

Even though we all knew that a film was to follow, there was a great sense of closure from the last scene of All Good Things... A shame that could not have been saved for their last feature film. It would have been a real graceful exit from Nemesis at the very least.

He may be on to something. Personally, I would much rather see the Trek story move forward in the TNG era or beyond than what were getting. I have to admit to being completely ambivalent towards this new movie and cast. I mean I'll see it eventually, out of curiosity if nothing else, but I might wait for the DVD.
