Fanficcers: How do you promote "parent" works?

What pages in Ship of the Line reference the Border Service? I certainly won't try and read the whole thing for that one gem...such drivel.

As for what influenced me, I owe a debt of gratitude to Heather Jarman for Andor: Paradigm and her great back story for the Andorian mythology and to DS9 (TV and Lit) for the serialised arcs I love so much.

I no longer have a copy, but as I recall it was in the beginning of the book - either a prologue or chapter one. Captain Kirk paid Captain Bateson a compliment, calling the USS Bozeman a "classic border cutter."

There is another early Star Trek paperback that references the "Border Patrol," but I can't recall which one. In that particular book, the Border Patrol was a pretty rough bunch - poor discipline, second-hand ships and weapons, mix 'n match uniforms . . . honestly, they were more akin to pirates than Starfleet. Wish I could remember the source. :brickwall:

Yeah the early chapters told the story of Bateson and co. before they entered the anomaly. Meeting up with the Enterprise. A brief from Bateson to two new kids about the differences in shifts and the wearing of side arms as a requisite, running lights to signal those they 'pull over'. As well as a general impression of not quite being spick and span.

Wow... it seems really silly that someone would have to "pull over", when you have something like the transporter to use... :)

Can we assume that the UFP has...a secure border? :)

IDK... not a day goes by of late, that the subspace news reports aren't filled with news of people from Ferenginar, sneaking across the Federation border, in pursuit of a better life... word is the galactic economic crisis has hit the Ferengi hard...

Can we assume that the UFP has...a secure border? :)

Borg, insurgent Cardassians, Romulans, Remans, Tzekenthi, Breen, Dominion, Orion Pirates, heck even the Klingons at some point might change their minds, general no-gooders, illegal immigrants ...

i had to read a lot of ethnographies in class, so my series is about such an expedition with 2 Starfleet ships....

plus i've taken inspiration from Jean Taylor's novel Pathways about the Voyager crew's biographies and written one for my crew...

thousands of light years of empty space?

that's impossible to keep secure....i'm sure they patrol it and manage to keep out a lot of stuff...but i'm sure some things manage to sneak through...Quark managed to smuggle stuff into DS9 under Odo's nose after all....
