Not childish. But we have two routes: something simple and amateur, which would add little more than our recommendations and challenge systems.

Or something official, which probably would need good legal oversight (in case of complaints of bias etc), and approval from the boards Higher Ups (who don't seem terribly excited). It would also need input (ie voting) from the wider community, I think.

Incidentally, I think our challenge is one of the things that is really distinctive and fun in the forum these days. What about someone create a 'winner's banner' for the challenge winner to wear elsewhere?

There is nothing childish about TrekBBS having its own fanfiction awards. I certainly find the topic worthy of discussion, otherwise I would not have responded to the thread. If the goal is to create an annual, forum wide fanfiction Award for Trekbbs I do think one needs to carefully look at whether or not there are members of the board who are willing to dedicate the time and effort it will take to do that. I also think that RevdKathy should have the final say because, no way around it, as moderator, something of that magnitude will end up in her lap. As I said, this is not something I would advise jumping into lightly. Many issues would have to be decided on; such as eligibility, posting time frame (for example the 2007 ASC year went from February 1, 2007 to January 31, 2008), when are the awards going to be held, what kind of voting, rules for voting, who will tally the votes, how will ties be handled and so on.

However, if what is being discussed is people just suddenly tossing up nominations and then creating a poll, I don't see how that will have any more significance than the plethora of polls put up on this board daily.

I have my own "Starbase 666" awards for Trek "design creativity" & "Starbase 666" fan fiction awards, too.
