"Fanboys" - a lot of fun!

I thought this was just painfully un-funny. Quoting lines from Star Wars in everyday situations does not mean your movie is funny. It means you're going for the same lowest-common-denominator crap humor that Family Guy does.

"Look! Look what I just did! I quoted Star Wars in a situation that is not at all like Star Wars! I made a reference! I am funny! Look at how funny I am! Do you not see how funny I am?"

I watched the "Trek" scene on YouTube, and didn't find it funny. To me, the problem is that Star Wars has always been cool - even though the PT sucked, each one caused huge, popular excitement upon its release. Sure, there were ways to take it too far, and the PT got its just share of lumps in time, but pretty much everyone still loves lightsabers, Darth Vader jokes, Wookies, etc...

A Trek-style Fanboys, on the other hand, might have some potential.

I saw it this summer. It was okay, largely forgettable. Rogen playing multiple roles was a hoot, Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes cameo was chucklesome, Shatner cameo was pretty epic, and Kristen Bell was quite attractive...

I enjoyed the Rogen vs. Rogen fight.

Kristen Bell has the most talent of anyone involved in this thing. I would have liked it more if she had been in it more.

The Jason Mewes & Kevin Smith cameo (strangely billed as themselves) just served as a reminder that, when it comes to geek-literate road trip movies, Fanboys isn't anywhere near as funny as Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.

For that matter, I'd say the internet TV series The Guild is a much more accurate & genuinely affectionate portrayal of fandom.

If you're a Rush fan, it's also worth a look.

As part of a duology with I Love You Man?

Didn't find it funny...I had high expectations after looking forward to it for years after delay after delay -- and was hoping it would be as good as the similar Free Enterprise...but it wasn't. Not even close.

Free Enterprise is MUCH much funnier.

Part of why Free Enterprise works is because of when it came out. In 1998, geeks weren't yet cool and it was still a pretty fresh concept to have William Shatner making fun of himself. The isolation of the subculture was more palpable. Free Enterprise has a much more earnest dramatic storyline. And, if nothing else, William Shatner's Julius Caesar rap is pure comic genius! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNH6ano5KyQ

I absolutely LOVE this little shoutout to geek culture. Been watching it multiple times of late and it gets better with each viewing. Full of heart, and even a little bit of metaphysical musings as well as lots of shoutout and valentines to fan culture.

Not as clever as Free Enterprise, but as a Trek fan, Wars fan AND fan of many fandoms (LOVE it they put in a Highlander ref), adored it and hope they go forward with a sequel.
