Indeed. Though it may take a while, I honestly believe Exeter is far and away the best of the fanfilm series right now.

Well, I guess it's time to post something here, since the ball is starting to roll on ...

Star Trek: Reanimated

The concept is to replace all of the visuals of an episode of The Animated Series - the one chosen is "The Time Trap," where Enterprise and her crew are trapped in the Delta Triangle, along with the Klingon ship they were pursuing, and hundreds more.

The final film will use the original episode's full soundtrack - all the music and sound effects, except those in the title sequences, which will be all-new - and the visuals will be completed with CGI in 3D, lip-syncing the virtual actors to the original voices.

I'm starting to storyboard the production, and I'm looking for animators and modelers; this production will be especially heavy in starships and aliens (the latter will be based upon those seen in the original episode, though they may end up modified and new ones will undoubtedly be added as "extras" to populate the scenes where necessary). The characters are going to be rigged and animated using Poser, although they may be rendered in other desktop CGI applications, whichever ones the users have available and can be the most productive with; I'm standardizing the figures in Poser because it's both economical, and provides a broad resource from which to synthesize the characters (I've already gotten a pretty decent - though certainly not perfect - McCoy. The bridge is also fairly complete, so scenes could easily be animated on this set fairly soon).

I'm also looking for animators for the displays on the bridge, both the smaller status panels at all the stations, and the overhead displays; the displays used will depend upon the storyboarded action, but one major modification to the bridge will be that the overhead display for Engineering has been expanded to function like the MSDs in the modern Trek series; this is also where some of the planning for the joining of the two ships will be displayed and animated.

The website has fora for coordinating the production, in addition to general fan fora. More info will be posted on the website as it becomes available.

At this point, there's no set date for completion - it will depend upon the level of participation and output, but I hope we'll see something by Fall 2007.

Re: Star Trek Reanimated

Your progress on this has been awesome. I hope a lot of people participate.
I think I'm finally going to load Poser on my laptop. Maybe I can crank out one of those council aliens!

Re: Star Trek Reanimated

Thanks so much for posting this. I had initially watched some of these (Starship Exeter for sure, can't remember if I caught the New Voyages yet) but have fallen behind due to that nasty real life getting busy.

Now that I might have a little free time (after I finish a bunch of reading articles on the Vikings and doing one on Pagan holiday celebrations), I'd like to start watching some of this again.

I came here to ask you guys to tell me what was out there and which is best, etc., but this thread is here and I can go to the various sites from it. Great!

Hi everyone! I'm the director/editor/writer of a web series called Star Track. We just completed our latest episode entitled "The Search for Tremblay". Louis Philippe Tremblay is the captain of the show. You can find all the information you need and free downloads at our site!
Click here to head to Star Track online!
Here's a little back story on the show.
It all started off as a drunken joke 6 years ago. My friend Matt and I (he plays Captain Tremblay) decided to get the video camera out and shoot a cheesy episode of Star Trek in my basement. No props, no costumes, no story. It was god awful.
We showed it to a few people who thought it would be cool to get involved. We shot a few more, with minimal-very minimal, success. Over time, we just kept plugging away at it.
We went from using a beer bottle as the ship, to stealing ships from TNG. Then, like a quantum leap, we were blessed with serious fans of Star Trek and science fiction in general. We found a CGI artist who does incredible work for us. We started to build sets, and well, the rest is history! We usually come out with an episode every 2 months or so.

Let me know what you think! We produce all of the CG for the show too.

Re: Star Trek: Aurora Part 1 (animated)

I am SO impressed.

After after seeing this on YouTube. I'd say you got them beat by a mile animation wise.

Oh and the story is top notch too. I, too, can't wait for more. Can't wait to see more

I recommend the Star Trek Aurora animator. I'm still stoked over his work.

Re: Fan Flick/Podcast Series Descriptions, and Links...

This is NOT a Fan Film BUT an AUDIO Podcast Series that I want all the Trekkies who love the Original Crew of Kirk, Spock, and the rest, to go to my web site : marknetproductionsentrance.blogspot.com and find out about my project "Phase II," based loosely on the aborted Trek II tv series that never had a chance until now, that is... Join Admiral Kirk and crew on another five-year mission and see what is in store for them this time out before Khan takes his wrath in the best Trek film ever made! :D

Re: Fan Flick/Podcast Series Descriptions, and Links...

I'm the creator and executive producer of a serialized radio drama called "Star Trek: Defiant". We release one new episode every month, and it's much more modern than the old radio dramas from the '30s and '40s. Think of it as a Trek movie or TV show without the video feed and you get a pretty good idea of what it's like.

Full cast, full sound effects and musical scoring.

It's available for free download, or as a Podcast. Also available in iTunes, where it's ranked #21 among ALL TV & Film podcasts!

Re: Fan Flick/Podcast Series Descriptions, and Links...

UWC Defiance has discovered an interesting Serenity based fan film. From their web site:
"Into The Black" is the first ever fan-made show based on the setting of Joss Whedon's "Firefly".

It's a labor of love, being made entirely by Browncoats in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada. We loved the show, and it ended, and gorram it, we weren't finished watching it! There seemed to be very few Firefly/Serenity fan productions of any kind out there, and we had some stories to tell... so we decided to.
They have a trailer available on youtube here.

Their home website is www.intotheblack.ca
