Fan Collective Mirror Universe??

When they first announced that they were doing the Fan Collective: Captin's Log they also talked about, and did a poll for a Parallel Universe Fan Collective too. But when I looked for it on the Future Release calander on Memory Alpha it wasn't there. Does anyone here know whether or not it is still coming out and if so when? Because I love the the MU and I was really looking to getting this.

I haven't heard any news, though I'd like to see a parallel universe set instead of a strictly Mirror Universe set.

An MU set would only comprise 8 episodes in total:

In a Mirror Darkly, Part 1 (ENT)
In a Mirror Darkly, Part 2 (ENT)
Mirror, Mirror (TOS)
Crossover (DS9)
Through the Looking Glass (DS9)
Shattered Mirror (DS9)
Resurrection (DS9)
The Emperor's New Cloak (DS9)

You could arguably include 'The Tholian Web' (TOS) because of the events chronicled in 'IaMD' even though the MU isn't mentioned at all within the episode. That would only make for 9 episodes and a pretty thin set.

They said they were doing a parallel universe fan collective.

It would comprise all 8 Mirror Universe episodes, as well as some selected other parallel universe episodes. The poll was to figure out which episodes, besides the mirror universe episodes, would be included in addition to the mirror universe episodes.

I probably wouldn't buy the set because most of the mirror eps were DS9 based and I own the entire set.

Would be interested in seeing the other parallel universe ones and if there would be any other duplicates from the other sets on them.

You could - maybe - sneak a few more on there if you cheat.

Yesterdays Enterprise (TNG)
Future Imperfect (TNG)
Parallels (TNG)
Living Witness (VOY)
Course: Oblivion (VOY)
Author, Author (VOY)

I'd get it if it had all of those on.

I'd almost guarantee that at least Yesterday's Enterprise, Future Imperfect and Parellels will be on it. Those do seem to be everybodies favorite parellel universe episodes afterall. The only question would be what exactly their deffinition of parallel universe is, because there are alot that are actually illusions and whatnot, like FI for example.

I was just looking at Future Imperfect on Memory Alpha, and I just learned that Minuet was Dr. Olivet from the Law & Order franchise. I had no idea that was her!

I'd get it either way, whether it's just the pure MU episodes, or if it was expanded out by including other 'alternate reality' episodes.

There'd be nothing stopping them just releasing the pure MU episodes, there may only be 8 , simply drop the RRP.

Adding Twilight (ENT) would probably be the deal clincher for me. At the risk of starting a riot, I quite liked seeing Nazis in 40's New York during Storm Front, though it probably wouldn't be a contender.

I am wondering if poor sales for the Captain's Log collective have scuppered the planned Mirror/Parallels set.

That would make sense, but they'll probably find another TOS episode to put on the set, there's only one otherwise.

^
Well... if it's expanded to include general alternate universe episodes...

"The Alternative Factor"! ;)

^^

They should include The Cage and say that that was in the MU and that's why Spock smiled etc

Yeah, but then it wouldn't be a Fan Collective, since the whole point of the series is that we pick the episodes.

Is that how they've done them all? Surely the Borg one for instance, the episodes pretty much picked themselves.

Doing a little digging, it looks as though it'll be tagged as an 'alternative realities' fan collective.

Well, the Time Travel, Klingon, Captain's Log and "Alternative Realities" Collectives all involved fan voting. For the AR one we voted on which non-MU episodes were included. I'm not sure about the Borg one though, and the Q one seems to just be all of the episodes he was in.

Yes, it's the Borg and Q ones that stick out. I can't see why there'd be anykind of a vote for the Q one given that it's basically all of his episodes. Similarly with the Borg set, given that they could only do a certain amount of episodes, the episodes that ultimately went on it would seem to dictate themselves. I can understand why something like the Time Travel set or the Klingon set would require some sort of vote, and in truth, it's a great idea, we get the episodes we'd really want, well providing the ones you voted for won I guess! The Captain's Log ones were basically one choice for each Captain and then the rest were fan-voted ones, which again is fairly logical, however, I have to admit, some of the Captain's choices were disappointing. Patrick Stewart picked 'In Theory'. I know why, it was his directorial debut, but for me, I'd have preferred him picking an episode that he felt best showed off his character, or one that he enjoyed playing the character in most. Avery Brooks' choice was a fairly obvious one, but I loved that episode, and it's a great Sisko choice, so fair play. Similarly with Mulgrew picking Counterpoint, good selection. Bakula picked Judgement I think, which is a decent Archer episode, and then did Shatner pick The City on the Edge of Forever? I think it's just Stewart's choice that disappointed me.

Going back to the MU set, I think that if it were just marketed as a 'Mirror Universe' set then they should have stuck with the 8 episodes and reduced down the RRP. Nofan selection, but there wasn't with the Borg or the Q ones either, and given the narrow and definitive scope of the subject matter, that's understandable. Now that they're calling it the 'Alternate Realities' set though, then it opens up the fan-voted stuff again.

Personally, I think they should have had a Mirror Universe/Section31 set, although that would have just added more DS9 episodes!

A decent future release might be a Maquis set. TNG, DS9 and VOY could all contribute episodes.

Journey's End (TNG)
Pre-Emptive Strike (TNG)
The Maquis Parts I & II (DS9)
For the Cause (DS9)
For the Uniform (DS9)
Blaze of Glory (DS9)
Caretaker (VOY)

That would be 9 episodes, I'm sure you could pull a few more Maquis-centric Voyager episodes in to bring the count up to 12.

IMO that's actually not a bad idea. The one thing I want though , even though it isn't a "Fan Collective" idea, is a collection of the final 9 episodes of DS9. Those are some of my absoulte favorite episodes of Trek (maybe even TV) ever, and I would love to get just them.

^^ Don't know about the previous releases, but over here the Captain's Log Fan Collective was priced at £30 when it was released. You can currently pick up any season of DS9 on R2 DVD over here for £17.99. No point in getting a collective for that one, just get the whole seventh season set ;)

I think the next set should be the dominion. I know it's DS9 based, but there are so many you could choose from.My line up would look like this:

The Jem'adar
The Search 1 and 2
The Abandoned
The Adversary
Hypocratic Oath
Broken Link
The Ship
In purgatory's Shadow
By Internal Light
Call To arms
A Time to Stand
Rocks and Shoels
Behind the Lines
Favor the Bold
Sacrifice of Angels
In the Pale Moonlight
Tears of the Prophets
The Siege of Ar-558
Strange Bedfellows
The Changing Face of Evil
When it Rains
Tacking into the Wind
The Dogs of War
What You Leave Behind
