FALLOUT 3 - discussion thread

oh man, everyone, get the animal friends level 2 perk, nothin's funnier than an army of mole rats taking down a super mutant master, or a yao-guai fighting a deathclaw

Gah, so it's confirmed that the ending for the game is being completely re-written in the last DLC.

I'm not sure how I feel about this... I mean, at least they're changing the end game (child follows in the footsteps of the father), but paying 10+ dollars to see the better ending kind of sucks.

What makes you think there will be an ending at all?

One of the issues people have is that there was an ending and they couldnt play after it. I am thinking that there will not be an ending and the game will just continue to progress open-ended.

Well, the actual ending will have to be rewritten and then there will be a natural end to the DLC quest, one would imagine.

I just wonder how they'll deal with the cutscene.

Yah, with the final mod (out in march) the ending will change, but the game won't end. It will remove the level cap so you can progress beyond 20th level with new stuff, perks, creatures, etc... and apparently you can also join the Brotherhood of Steel.

Not sure about removing the level cap myself. At level 20 I already had about half the skills maxed and the other half around 50 and was pretty much unkillable. Is there even any point in gaining more levels beyond 20? Another ten levels and almost all variation between character builds will be gone. On the other hand I guess it won't make much difference anyway.

I really think they should do away with a "main quest" for the next Fallout game so they don't need to worry about balancing things out for people who rush through the game without exploring much or doing the side quests. Stick to a few larger quests lines such as the Wasteland Guide and the usual assortment of side quests and slow the levelling right down so that you only hit the cap after uncovering most of the map and doing most of the quests. It's not as if we'll all miss out on a fantastic story if they do that.

I frakkin' HATE GFWL! :scream:
I've spent more time trying to figure out how to get the DLC to work, than figuring out how to mod my own weapons with the GECK . . .

GFWL = FAIL

even though I hate the fail meme . . . I had to . . . GFWL fails miserably

Yeah, I've heard some nightmare stories about the DLC on PC. Oh well.

That said, anyone with the PC version try the console cheats?
Apparently there's an "addachievement" cheat that basically lets you add all 50 (or 54 now) achievements!

I shouldn't use the console cheats . . . but I do

I finally figured out that you have to sign in to LIVE inside the game . . . which of course totally wipes my saves (they're still there, but they were connected to my Steam acct, not LIVE) so if I want to play under my live acct I have to totally start over

luckily I found out where the DLC content was downloaded to, so I just copied them to my data folder so I can play with my old savegames

That's probably the most annoying part of GFWL. Why lock saves to an account that requires you to be online? Bah.

some new perks I want to see

specific enemy damage modifiers (like the entemologist perk)
Mireluk Masher- +5 dmg to mireluks up to 3 levels
Super Mutant Smasher- +5 dmg to super mutants up to 3 levels
Raider Ripper- +5 dmg to raiders up to 3 levels
Beast Beater- +5 dmg to creatures up to 3 levels

Permanant sneak-boy upgrade- adds the ability to turn invisible at will

Meticulus care- -5% degradation to all weapons/armor up to 3 levels

the one I sent in for their perk contest was "truth bullets", basically like truth serum in bullet form. the game machanic would be to use your highest rated gun level instead of charm or whatever to get extra dialog options. The joke of course would be that all the person could honestly say was that the bullets really, really, hurt.

ok, i rented this game again (shakes fist at friend who has my copy and can't send it to me yet) and in 3 hours I went from wearing broken recon armor, a 10mm pistol and 34 caps to wearing tesla armor, a plasma rifle, and 6200 caps...ask me how

you played 50% slower than everybody else?

I'm enjoying it so far. The auto-axe is a lot of fun, and I'm not even using a melee build. Plus, the infiltrator is just sick. A silenced, scoped, assault rifle. That's just awesome.

I switched routers and I can't find the disk for my pelican Network Adapter, so I can't get back on XBL :( how are the new DLC's?

no, i just got side-tracked looting the archives and minefield

I hope you're both joking or I'm going to really feel bad about myself. :wtf:

I don't like scrounging around for stuff, so I usually use the console cheats
I like having fun while playing, not going nuts trying to find rounds for my alien blaster

yeah, I'm a cheater . . .
