FALLOUT 3 - discussion thread

I'm pretty stoked for this game. Of all the games released this fall, Fallout 3 is the one I'm looking forward to the most. And that beats out some pretty strong comeptition...

A nice 9.6 from IGN, the site I generally trust when it comes to games.

The text review they posted said that this is easily a 100+ hour game if you want to accomplish everything.

I personally trust IGN as far as I can throw a 10 storey building. But I do trust Eurogamer a lot, and they've been pretty down on the game in their previews a few months a back. It means a lot to me that they ultimately scored it a 10. Nice.

Same here. I don't think I'll ever trust IGN or PC Gamer magazine (why did GFW magazine have to go under but PC Gamer continues?)

For me, it's either Valkyria Chronicles or Fallout 3 this week.

So, Valkyria Chronicles it is :)

Or not, since I just found out that VC is out here on the 6/11. Which, coincidentally, is the same day I planned to purchase Gears 2...and LittleBigPlanet.

I'd never ever thought I'd complain about having too many games to play but, there are just too many games to play! I'm also rather bemused that the Australian dollar has lost 40% against the greenback in the past few months, meaning that importing is no longer a viable proposition. How inconsiderate :scream:

I feel your pain. Far Cry 2 has taken a seat on the back burner while I'm utterly enchanted by Fable 2, Fallout 3 got posted last night, and I'm really REALLY wanting to get Star Ocean First Departure and Mirror's Edge next month.

I can't cope with this. I have neither the income nor the spare time to juggle 5 £40 games. :scream:

(world's smallest violin etc)

UPDATE:

Apparently the PS3 version is suffering from game breaking bugs.

Okay, question: If I go to best buy tonight, will I find a physical copy of the game on the shelves?

Or will I have to wait till Wednesday like I did Dead Space? (even though the release date was advertised as Tues but called a "ship date" by Best Buy)...

It's out.
I just picked my collectors Edition along with free mini strategy guide from Circuit City.
I also picked up the Dead Space animation.

Cough, cough.
Hmmm... am I getting sick? I'd hate to have to leave work early...:p

Did you have it pre-ordered? I am hoping to walk into a shop and pick up a copy today but I don't have it pre-ordered and I am paranoid it will be sold out.

No way it'd be sold out at a big box store...
I'm just doing GameStop because they're not charging the "Canadian Economy is Shit" tax yet.

Okay, nice. I'll pick it up after work then.

I was going to get the steam version but I've been googling around and reading complaints that the extension code screws with modding, etc. No word on if Steam effects GFW Live ... but I'm not risking it, because I want the achievements on my XBL gamertag.

The deal with Steam (and Direct2Drive) is that any mods that have to modify the actual executable aren't going to work as they're encrypted and such. However... I don't think any of the mods I had on Oblivion actually did anything with the exe, they just modified assets, so I'm not worried. Downloading from Steam now...

In an attempt to get Dead Space cheaper, I signed up for a free GameFly trial. However, since I bought DS on friday because it didn't ship then (nor did Fable II), I added Fallout 3. That did just ship, I might continue with a regular one-game out service and try it out for a few weeks.

I tried GameFly - I eventually gave it up. Not that it's bad, per say - it's far slower than netflix in terms of turnaround time and new popular games are almost impossible to get for rental right away (low availability) - but overall it works fine.
