fall sci fi series

V and Caprica are the only ones that grab me. However i'm well aware that both of those are off of existing franchises which makes me much more wiling to take the plunge. "Happy Town" and "Day One" (sounds like Jericho?) sound like they might be good.

According to Nikki Finke this may be the Fox schedule that's unveiled at the upfront:

Monday - House, Lie to Me
Tuesday - So You Think You Can Dance, Fringe
Wednesday - So You Think You Can Dance results show, Glee
Thursday - Bones, Kitchen Nightmares (with Past Life taking over after baseball)
Friday - Human Target, Dollhouse
Sunday - Brothers at 7:30 out of NFL, Cleveland at 8:30

All others unchanged.

Nikki Finke has taken down the above Fox schedule, saying that Fox insiders have told her "close but no cigar".

Also, she reports that the CW has, as expected, picked up Vampire Diaries.

Fox has announced their schedule (I posted it in the General TV forum), and they have a description of Human Target in their press release:

It takes a brave, selfless man to make himself a “human target” in order to save the lives of those in danger. Based on the popular DC Comics graphic novel, HUMAN TARGET is a full-throttle action drama centered on CHRISTOPHER CHANCE (Mark Valley, FRINGE), a unique private contractor/security guard hired to protect. Call him what you like, because for Chance, it’s about one thing only: saving his clients’ lives. When there is an unusual or imminent threat that can’t be solved through “normal” means of protection, Chance is hired to completely integrate himself into his clients’ lives – to become the human target. If you’re a corporate manager whose disgruntled employee has gone violently off the deep end, Chance is your new auditor. If you’re the president of a bank who’s been tipped off to a potential heist, Chance is your unassuming bank teller. During each job, Chance, assisted by his business partner WINSTON (Chi McBride, “Pushing Daisies”) and hired gun GUERRERO (Jackie Earle Haley, “Watchmen”), puts himself directly in the line of fire as he races against time to save his client, while unraveling the truth behind the mission. With every new danger, Chance’s dark history will also unravel. Does anyone know who Christopher Chance really is, or what secrets lay buried in his past? What would make a man willingly become a HUMAN TARGET?
So they've changed the premise quite dramatically from the comic in that he doesn't actually assume the identity of the client, so no disguises for Mark Valley then.

I'll give Day One, Stargate: Universe (even though I never watched any other Stargate TV show), and Warehouse 13 a shot.

Day One: Sounds like Jericho clone

Stargate Universe: Sounds like cross between Lost in Space & Starlost

Warehouse 13: Sounds like Indiana Jones spinoff with the X-Files thown in (also, possibly a bigger version of The Lost Room)

Bah. Well my interest in that show just went out the window. Too bad, it could have been very interesting if Chance were at least a Lon Chaney style master of disguises, if not an out and out shapeshifter.

Oh well, I still have half a dozen or more shows that sound worth at least checking out.

It's not scheduled to be the lead-in for Dollhouse. Nikki Finke's early info turned out to be wrong (she took it down soon after she posted it). Human Target will air as a midseason show after American Idol. So it's getting a plum timeslot.

Edit to add: ah, you see you must have seen Fox's schedule and edited your post while I was replying.

When Human Target was on in the 90s and starred Rick Springfield, the show actually sucked for the lead actor because whenever he took on the disguise of the person he's protecting, it would just be the guest star running around doing all the leading man stuff.

The Lost Room would have rocked as a regular series!

I don't know. The two things that made the mini so compelling was that from start to finish, the nature of the key, the room, and objetcs were a mystery and remained that. It would lose alot of that mystique over time as the nature of the weirdness is explained. And the main character's sole purpose was to find his daughter which was a real emotional motivation. Since he found her, he has no other reason to be on the show. Perhaps if you had a new lead in place whose purpose was to find all the objects and make sure they aren't used by anyone, it might work. But that sounds like the old Friday The 13th series.

Elizabeth Mitchell being front and center doesn't seem like a guest starring role to me. Unless that was just to deflect her Lost status and now that Lost's season is over they don't care to hide it anymore.

Also... would you mind having this Visitor as your friend?

This is for V? Nice, ahem, cast members!

So in terms of the US broadcast networks next season will have the following SFF shows:

Smallville (CW) - 9th season
Lost (ABC) - 6th season
Medium (CBS) - 6th season
Ghost Whisperer (CBS) - 5th season
Supernatural (CW) - 5th season
Heroes (NBC) - 4th season
Chuck (NBC) - 3rd season
Dollhouse (Fox) - 2nd season
Fringe (Fox) - 2nd season
Day One (NBC) - 1st season
Eastwick (ABC) - 1st season
Flash Forward (ABC) - 1st season
Past Life (Fox) - 1st season
V (ABC) - 1st season
Vampire Diaries (CW) - 1st season

Reaper is the only network SFF show from this season yet to have its fate announced, but it looks like its only hope for continuation is if it's picked up as a syndicated series.

That was just misdirection for the benefit of Lost fans. She's definitely the lead.

Funny thing is
they didn't kill Juliet, at least not in any definitive way, anyway, so what were they trying to hide?
