Watched it last night on HBO go and it felt like it had a lot of untapped potential that was wasted, especially with the cast that they put together.

They did a good job updating the material to reflect modern technology, burning hard drives and the eels uploading books digitally and using emojis in place of words, but failed to explore the privacy issues that went hand in hand. I was intrigued by how they had added a ‘new civil war’ to be the trigger that led to the banning of books, and I would like to know a little more about that.

It had the dark, dreary, hopeless tone of The Handmaids Tale but they did it better on that show.

Long story short: unbelievable piece of crap. I believe they call it "a self-fulfilling prophecy". HBO literally burned Bradbury's book.

I'm kind of unclear on the girl - was she an Eel, or was she an informant? Not sure if I was supposed to like her or hate her.

while the message is still very important I think F451 is one piece of Sci-Fi that's been overtaken by technology. Perhaps the better option would have been to set it on another planet where they never had the internet or set it pre-1990s

It could’ve been better, but I enjoyed it. It seemed to capture the spirit of the book and managed to update it. I think it could’ve been more critical though.

Just saw it. I liked it but still prefer the 66 movie.

I appreciated the attempts at modernization, e.g. ebooks. Not sure how to feel about omnis.

I wasn't clear as to why the bookreaders were called eels or internet called "the 9".

The actor playing the main character was OK but I really liked the actor playing the Captain. It was good to see Keir Dullea again, though I wouldn't have recognized him if I wasn't looking for him. It was also good to see Sofia Boutella (from Star Trek Beyond) out of alien makeup, she is beautiful.

I was intrigued by how they had added a ‘new civil war’ to be the trigger that led to the banning of books, and I would like to know a little more about that.

Just watched it and unfortunately I agree. The story beats of the original story were there, but it felt so different and seemed to move at such a languid pace. It did introduce interesting concepts such as everything living digitally. But hilariously, it misses exploring one of the key concepts of the book, about why they're burning books vs the pursuit of knowledge by that underground group. They merely glanced at it. So, in the end, it just comes across as another "government bad/opressed people fighting back" story that we've seen so many times before.
