Facebook: To greet or not to greet?

Yeah, I don't quite understand this Facebook fad. When it first hit the scene I thought to myself "Oh sure, this will die out in a few months". Few years later, it's still here, and I'm still confused. Nothing against anyone that has Facebook, but I have better things to do then let everyone know what I'm doing every second of the day, whilst posting pictures that I took in a school bathroom.

No one takes bathroom mirror pictures for facebook, that's Myspace. With facebook, you're supposed to reach the camera as far from your face as possible and then turn it around and take a picture of yourself.

That being said, I love photography and take an awful lot of photos, and have gotten a lot of positive feedback on it over the years. My facebook albums are largely collections from my travels, very few actually of me.

For me it depends on the person. This week, I've had three birthdays. Didn't say anything to any of these people. Normally I do ... but been busy with other things. I'm also thinking removing my birthday from facebook, as part of my profile.

You obviously know very little about the reality of Facebook, as opposed to the stereotype.

Yes, I suppose. I hope what I said didn't come off as offensive, I realize now that it might have. Aside from this message board, I have little to do with the internet, or technology at all for that matter. I'm not trying to judge anyone that uses Facebook or any other social network. We all have our own ways to pass the time. I prefer sitting down with a good book or knitting(it's very therapeutic), whilst others prefer blogging or chatting with their friends.

^I wasn't offended, Vorta. Some people do post the ridiculous way you're describing. But many of us just find it to be a quick and easy (and fun) way to communicate with far-flung friends/family and get news about topics we're interested in.

Reading is my preferred activity, too. Haven't knit in decades, but I'm trying to get back to doing needlepoint.

I don't know why people complain about posts concerning tedious daily minutiae. If you don't want to see it, don't be friends with people who do it! Or block their posts from appearing in your feed. Facebook gives you options here, use them. Of course, you can also just not use Facebook, I simply find it silly to reject a tool because of how some people use it, not for any flaws in the tool itself.

(I can fully understand people not wanting to use Facebook because of its poor privacy protection record and/or shady business practices, though.)

I wish closer friends on facebook a Happy Birthday. When it's not a close friend it all depends on whether they're hot and single.

Also: I saw this on Facebo.... I mean, somewhere online. Yeah...
