Face To Face With An E.T.?

^
I signed up at ATS but haven't been there in months.

The biggest problem I think most people have would be the reality...it is all fun and games talking about and seeing hollywood movies but to be face to face with an E.T. would be a different story.

Well, I've seen many, many UFO's where I am over the years. I can tell you, I look foreward to meeting one.

Also, here's how I think the big annoucement will be made...in 3 parts.
1: New of finding alien bacteria, or some other single-celled creatures.
2: Structures, such as ruins (Which I've seen on both Mars, and our own moon).
3: The big one....intelligent life.

I don't think the government or a person will do it per say, but an event, and one that I think is very close to happening, will set the dominos going. And once it happens, the world's going to be a better place overall.

And to those who still don't care unless it does something for your finanaces, then you should really not be in the thread, yes? :p

ATS? :vulcan:

Above Top Secret...fun place.

I think an event would cause wonder & panic...discovering alien bacteria or single cell life might ease people into it.

It's NASA, with it's stupid Brookings report that I hate so much, that thinks we'll all go crazy and kill each other if told about ET's, which I HIGHLY doubt. The bacteria annoucement is like the first stage of a time release pill, if you will.

The only people who will panic are people who have something to lose. And if they kill themselves....let 'em, we don't need all these institutions keeping us deaf and dumb. The fact the Pope (Whom I find refreashing as opposed to John Paul), last year, annouced that believing in aliens does not negate the belief in god was ground breaking, especially for an institution like the Vatican, who for years, said otherwise. I'm not catholic, but Benedict gets kudos from me. :bolian:

One thing, though. IF the annoucement happens in America, and if the president, whomever that will be....that president will have his or her face next to Lincoln at Mt. Rushmore.

Got a bottle of 40+ year old scotch stashed away just for this occasion to happen. Plus I'll be playing, very loudly, mind you, Silent Running on my speakers.

I doubt the trip would take years. As I mentioned, just cause humanity's too dumb and/or lazy to (officially, anyhow) acknowledge FTL travel, does not mean the aliens don't. I bet they'd look at the so-called gods of science and go, "This Einstein fellow has no idea what he's talking about. :borg:" They'd have technology so amazing that our state of the art stuff would be prehistoric junk to them. :p

Back maybe 300+ years back, maybe less Our current technology would seem like magic...I am thinking advanced alien technology would seem that way to us now.

I don't care if it takes 5 seconds to get ot another aliens homeworld...I am sure someone would spend several years there to see everything and learn as much as they could...I know I would want to come back the next day or something.

I am getting the impression that unless a sexy Vulcan babe came to them and said "Wanna go where no man has gone before?" they could care less about Extra Terrestrial life.
I just think it's incredibly unlikely that something like this would happen. Space is fucking huge. Even if an advanced alien race existed that could travel to Earth, how likely are they to actually discover Earth? With billions o stars to choose from, I am skeptical that humans and aliens will ever cross paths.

I was serious with what I said earlier, though. I would want a friend to come with me. I'm not sure if I could handle taking that kind of trip alone.

Would the spider be dressed in a 20th century business suit, like Gary Seven? If so I'd be very wary of him and probably stay home.

I would want to take someone with me too...but I don't know anyone who would go. :(

Ehh, stop being a gloomy guss. All you gotta do is look up, and I've seen tons of stuff in the sky that tells me they are already here. And given the nearest solar system can be a mere 4 or 5 light years away, I think we got visitors. :bolian:

Are we ready for our visitors?

I would like to see more movies & tv about the arrival that isn't doom and gloom or no matter how advanced they are we still can kick their asses...that is just silly.

Well, first stop thinking that if they are aliens, they automatically want to kill/enslave/eat us. Just cause they make EVERYONE in current Doctor Who panic like idiots, does not mean it's gonna happen. Also, let's stop going over who can kick who's ass, and let's simply say, "Hi, how are you? Welcome to Earth! :bolian:" and work on from there.

And yes, we are ready. In these dark times of TV news and the previous president wanting to make us think that are are fundamentalist Arabs want to blow us up at every street corner, an economy that's border line despression, pig flu, and that bitch Katie's devorce.....meeting alien life will be a good thing. They could maybe even help us out.

And as I said, if you do it this way
1: Annouce the discovery of single-celled alien life, like bacteria on Mars, the moon, or wherever.
2: Annonce the discovery of structures, ie ruins on the moon, Mars, and Iapitus.
3: Finally annouce intelligent ET life.

My way could work out just fine. So let's check away the paranoia, stop believing what's on current Doctor Who, and face up to the facts that we are not the highest/only form of life in the cosmos, and that we are not alone on a speck of sand in beach teaming with life. It's time that humanity, like our good man, Jaun-Luc Picard said, grows up.....and stop being the white trash of the cosmos, reaching for the double barrel shotgun and shouting, "Git off m' property!" each time someone new comes by.

And if I can live on another world and be able to survive well, I might not bother coming back to Earth, aka the boondocks of the cosmos. :p

Would I go? Well...I'd have to see a pretty long-term demonstration of good faith, first, to see how these people conduct themselves both on the international/diplomatic stage and with individuals before I would go anywhere with them. Getting to know an alien on Earth would be a good first step, seeing if a good working relationship--or better, a friendship--could form despite cultural and biological differences. IF this could happen, then I might consider the trip. But trust would have to be established beforehand, not afterwards.
