Fable 2: Will it own or suck?

Ok, so Fable turned out to be, well, a bit rubbish. Diplomatically speaking.

BUT!

I'm actually buying Molyneux's bullshit this time. Maybe that's really silly of me, but he does seem to have learned from his mistakes last time and only seems to be talking about game features he can actually demonstrate. Having seen the evidence - the interviews, the press demonstrations, the Dev Diaries, I really do think it has a chance of living up to the hype.

I think it's downfall may be that it tries to be all things to all people - he seems pretty confident that they can appeal to both "hardcore" and "casual" gamers, but it's a very difficult line to straddle.

Either way, I'm buying at launch. Can't wait. If Fable 2 turns out to be the game that Fable 1 should have been, at the very least, it'll be worth playing.

Erm, probably.

I liked Fable I well enough. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't a bad game. Plus it gets points for letting your character fart.

And the divorce system in that game is awesome. :p

It had its points I suppose. Farting being one of them.

Oh, how Oblivion would have been improved if only your character could develop flatulence!

My biggest problem with Fable, aside from it being nowhere near the game it was promised to be, was its funnelling approach to "free roaming". It was supposed to be all about freedom of choice, and consequences from actions, but the freedom simply wasn't there (aside from a smattering of token black/white choices) and the consequences weren't quite as far reaching as we'd been led to believe.

However you play the game, you fight exactly the same boss at the end. The only variation is how evil or angelic you look while doing it.

God I hated Molyneux for that.

I think Fable 2 has improved on these issues, and alot more besides.

Which put me in mind of this.

I only recently bought Fable, because of my interest in Fable 2. I downloaded it on xbox live... I've played about an hour's worth, but I just can't be bothered with it.

Yahtzee = Genius.

Yeah, it is pretty namby pamby. I played it through to completion, in about 15 hours, and was decidedly underwhelmed. That's why my own excitement for the sequel surprises the hell out of me.

Watching those videos of the combat system I am very impressed.

Dammit. Am I going to have to buy a 360 now?

I am looking forward to the game immensely, I enjoyed the first one, though I was disappointed with it. My hope is that the second keeps the good things from the first, and builds upon the promise.

Normally I'm not a fan of these types of games but watching those vids I just might have to pick this one up.

I hope it'll be good. I enjoyed Fable quite a bit (or at least Fable: The Lost Chapters for PC, which is the only version of it I have), though it did have its problems. I never heard all the designers promises or whatever that you're referring to, so had nothing to be disappointed by.

I hope Fable II will have a PC port eventually too because otherwise I'm not likely to play it...can't exactly afford to blow money on an XBox 360...

What's interesting about that is that people can grief each other's worlds... at least, according to that GDC demo a while back.

Seeing more on this game I'm growing more and more impressed and intrigued. But I doubt it'll get me to buy a 360. I'll probably wait for its PC port.

I enjoyed the first Fable, but I was a little disappointed by the short lenght and how linear it was. I've been keeping my eye on the sequel, hopefully it will be even better then the first.

I think Peter's going to hit it out of the park this time, he seems to have Microsoft's full cooperation behind him and the game seems to have been given the time it needs to get done. I think it'll own, the coop system sounds really cool as well.

This basically looks like he took a bunch of the good ideas that were cut to get the first game out quicker last time and slipped em back in as 'new features'. It is like all those MMOs that promise PVP or Housing or whatever at launch, then end up putting it in an expansion 2 years later that you have to pay for. I was so looking forward to the first game and was so disappointed I don't know if I can get my hopes up for this one.

I'm actually quite worried that certain puritanical idiots on ratings boards will slam the game for the "unprotected sex" option and delay it.

Well, with the on going pissing match between BBFC and PEGI, even though the Byron Report said both should be included, anything seems possible.
