"Eye of the Needle" Line-by-Line

Hello, Welcome!

We've recently completed our "Blood Fever" Line-by-Line here in the VOY forum!

After each completed thread, we're randomly picking someone who participated to choose the next episode we do. The lucky winner this time around was CoffeeAddict! And CoffeeAddict has chosen "Eye of the Needle" as our next Line-by-Line challenge!

For any unfamiliar with our "game," you are asked to post only a single line (defined as one character speaking without interruption by another character) per message. You can post as often as you like, but someone else must post a line in between your posts.

Our "rule" is that if the episode has a "To Be Continued..." on the end, it is done in a single thread, but if it's just an arc of related episodes, each episode is a separate thread.

As before, at the conclusion of this thread, I or CoveTom, BlueStuff, Enterprise1981 or leandar, will run the randomizer to determine who will pick the next episode and get it going.

Now it's time to explore a wormhole! I'm sure this won't end in more questions or disappointment!

Captain's Log, Stardate 48579.4. The crew has been scanning constantly for anomalies that might help us shorten our journey home. Ensign Kim has reported an exciting discovery. A subspace disturbance which may be a wormhole.

Janeway enters the Bridge and goes to Ops. Chakotay, Tuvok and Kim are all working there.

Janeway: Lets see what you have, Mister Kim.

 

[Orac]

Kim: There. It's registering only on subspace bands. We don't even have it on long range sensors yet.

 

[LeadHead]

Janeway: Vertiron emanations. Tunnelling secondary particles. It certainly looks like a wormhole.

 

[Orac]

Chakotay: But is it stable enough for us to enter, and if it is, where does it lead?

 

[LeadHead]

Tuvok: There is, of course, a 75% chance the wormhole will not lead to the Alpha Quadrant.

 

[Enterprise1981]

JANEWAY: Very true. But you can also say there's a one in four chance it will. Those aren't bad odds. Any analysis yet, Ensign?

 

[LeadHead]

Kim: Too far away. We'd have to be within a thousand kilometres to get a detailed analysis. That would mean a significant course change.

 

[Athena28]

JANEWAY: Well, Mr. Kim, if there's even the possibility of finding a wormhole, I think we can afford a detour. Lieutenant, input the coordinates and change course.

 

[Enterprise1981]

PARIS: Aye, Captain. And may I suggest, if this works, we petition the Federation Astronomical Committee to officially designate this the Harry Kim Wormhole.

(Some time later.)

PARIS: Captain, we're approaching the coordinates of the wormhole.

 

[Orac]

Janeway: On screen. Are we in visual range?

 

[Athena28]

KIM: Affirmative, Captain, and the anomaly is still registering on subspace bands.

 

[Enterprise1981]

PARIS: Sensors also indicate it's there.

 

[Athena28]

JANEWAY: Magnify. Increase to highest magnification.

 

[LeadHead]

Magnification increases and we see a tiny spec

Chakotay: If that's a wormhole, it must be the smallest one on record.

 

[Athena28]

JANEWAY: Mr. Kim, are you able to analyze it?

 

[Orac]

Kim: Aye Captain. It's virtually microscopic. The aperture is only about 30 centimetres in diameter.

 

[Athena28]

PARIS: I guess it's a little too small for us to fly through.

 

[Orac]

Tuvok: However, it might be large enough to act as a conduit for a message.

 

[JanewayRulz!]

KIM: That's right! It could carry a compressed data transmission to Federation space in minutes.
