Extended Peter Davison interview

Shatnertage

This popped up in my Twitter feed today:

It's an extended interview with Peter Davison from late last year. He talks about the 50th, conventions, being the Doctor, and a few other things. I just thought people on here would like to check it out.

What do you think of Davison's thoughts on Classic vs. Nu Who? This is just a little taste of the conversation:

JG : Billie Piper [who played Rose Tyler opposite the Ninth and Tenth Doctors] once said that at its heart, “Doctor Who” is a love story in time and space. That’s very different from your day.

PD: Very, very different, yes. I don’t know, in a way, I get slightly envious of the fact that the Doctor seems to get romantically involved with all the companions. In my day, I wasn’t even allowed to put my arm around the female companions for fear that people might think there was hanky-panky going on in the TARDIS. That doesn’t seem to be a concern now.

I have mixed feelings about it really. I think it works very well. That after years of struggling to get companions right, the first companion I think they ever really got quite right was in fact Rose. You want to make a strong character, but also a passionate character, and I think it was a brilliantly written part. And there was this frisson with the Doctor, there’s no doubt about that. It was more of a kind of love story.

Interesting interview. :)

Regarding the "hanky-panky in the TARDIS," I remember that phrase from an old interview back in the '80s. There might have been occasional times where the Doctor would put an arm around a Companion's shoulders, but no hugging, and definitely no kissing.

Fanfic is a whole other thing. I ran across a story where the Fifth Doctor marries Tegan... :p

I like that he and his boys watch the new series together. It would have to be feel nice to be part of the history of something your kids enjoy.

Well, when Peter was the Doctor he had half of London as his companions...

Not one of his companions was from London. In fact, with the exception of Tegan (Australian) and Peri (American), the Fifth Doctor's companions were alien!

Nyssa certainly tried to woo get the Doctor's attention once.

I don't think the Doctor is blind but sometimes he can be pretty thick in the head. Poor Nyssa and Martha T_T. I would love you both.

I think the Doctor's pretending to ignore her outfit because the only thing he could possibly say is, "What the fuck is that?"

Eh, at least know where Six got his Fashion Sense from ;)
:guffaw:

The shirt was nice, but it looks like the rest of her outfit was thrown together from the first thing the costumers grabbed. It might have worked a teeny bit if she wasn't wearing those ridiculous culottes.

But Traken people are refined! (Nyssa certainly had her nose in the air on the subject of dancing in Black Orchid)
