Extant premieres tonight - are you going to watch?

Okay I have watched it all pretty much at once and here are my running thoughts.

Episode 1: WHO would want a robot kid. And what's the deal with "this is the only way we will ever be parents" ?? Is there a shortage of kids in the future? Because this highly educated proffessional couple would have exactly zero problems adopting a kid so based on the husband's pronouncement that this is the only way there must have been a plague or maybe everything is highly regulated now. I expect an answer to this at some point in this show.

If someone came to me and said HERE IS A ROBOT KID for you, it needs you, you are it's mother. I would totally be like take that toaster to the salvos, I do NOT want a robot kid. Gah. What the heck for?

Episode 2: What is with these LONG BLACK scene changers. And what is with creepy people being named Ethan. Also Harmon is hot. There is something about a ginger beard.

I really like that the female doctor is hefty with long unperfect hair and looks like a regular person.

Episode 3: OH god no please NO mysterious symbols PLEASE.

Episode 4: The pace of this show keeps increasing and that is good because it was rather dull at first. Lots of changes every ep now.

My Prediction: You know how the title goes EXTINCT and morphs into EXTANT. I predict eveyrone on this show is actually a robot. The human race went extinct centuries ago and now the robots are creating new robots.

Episode 5: SPORE BABY. Well, we knew that really. I thought we would be having the pregnancy growing and looming and creating its own impending drama and then of course THE BIRTH which will be accompanied by a ridiculous levels of natural disaster and.. but no. It is in a box, incubating silently.

The only character I like is Julie. How much of her is biomechanical?? MAYBE MOST OF HER? Anyway it seems clear that this helps her connect to the robot child as a Real Boy. No one is going to tell her she is not a real woman and no one is going to tell her that robot child is not a Real Boy.

Otherwise I cannot choke down all the toaster concerns.

Yeah the pace is picked up like last week, though this ep did have dragging bits I thought. But they seem to be unveiling and changing the game every ep.

I have to admit, there were enough developments in this to keep me around at least a little bit longer. I figured they would drag out the mystery of what was on the station with Molly a lot longer. I'm wondering if it's going to turn out the spores are some kind of a life form that caused the pregnancy in order to get itself a humanoid body.
I thought that reveal with Julie was pretty cool. I didn't expect it. As a big supporter of more representation of people with disabilities in media, I'm really hoping we get more with her and her artificial legs than just this quick reveal.

So slow moving, and Halle's not hot enough to offset her lack of gravitas. I really think this show is a missed opportunity, and it's too bad... :(

If she isn't hot enough, I have a hard time imagining who could be. But I agree, her acting just doesn't seem to have the range for a series lead role wherein one is called upon to run the gamut of emotions and situations.

Anna Torv, since I'm on a Fringe binge... :)

And again, the pacing is at a snail's pace, which amplifies everything else.

For me it's good enough to keep going at this point. I've completely lost interest in Falling Skies and Under the Dome, so what else is on now that's new for a sci-fi fan?

Something to watch until The Walking Dead comes on this fall.

The Strain is quite... interesting. :)

Teacake had me all anxious about the introduction of a new cybernetic character in Extant.

BAH!

Julie played by Grace Gummer (Meryl Streep's "other" daughter) has been lurking around since the pilot.

Wow I did not know that and I have thought she looked like Meryl Streep.

She is still my favorite character on the show, as in the one I like. The rather cute Harmon is now dead but that was inevitable.

Apparently we are going to have another Korean war.

I can't stand mysterious symbol alien nonsense but the show continues to move at a good pace. Obviously there is an invasion upon them. A terrible and so far badly planned invasion. Stupid aliens, you don't take over a body and then just start killing, you won't get to move into the world and take over more bodies if you do that.

They just want love, that's all LOVE. That's why they want to make babies, because they are easy to love. If people can love toasters surely they can love alien babies.

Only if you hate yourself.

I feel asleep again watching episode 6.

Middle of the day.

I mean sure sometimes I watch stuff late at night and things happen.

But possessing the power to force me into unconsciousness at 4 pm is magic bordering on pharmaceutical.
