I always thought the word 'verklempt' was made up specifically for that sketch (which, IRL, was based on Mike Myers' mother in law).
It's Yiddish.

To be verklempt is to be overwhelmed by emotion. You might be able to discern that someone is verklempt if he is choking back tears, unable to speak, or clenched because of intense emotions.

like many Yiddish words verklempt is just a spelling variant of a High German word. In this case it's "verklemmt" = (figuratively) inhibited, clamping up one's feelings & (literally) blocked, jammed
