Explorers (season 3)

Maybe all they got back was a transmission and at some point over the centuries the actual recording was lost so it became legend.

I just wanted to say, I think this episode is the most "Star Trek" out of all the ones I'd seen of DS9. I really liked the ending and no one felt the need to kill anyone.

As far as "Inertial Dampeners", I don't know if that was a factor given the low warp. I wouldn't expect Zefram Cochrane's Phoenix to have one (Though there's no evidence it didn't have one). I think we can safely surmise that low-warp does not necessitate Structural Integrity fields.

In terms of common sense, getting from lightsail speeds to FTL speeds, even to warp 1, in any time shorter than a year would mean pretty extreme acceleration that would kill the Siskos.

Then again, the transition from sublight to warp is never really described in technobabble, and "common sense" might be totally inapplicable there. Both acceleration to warp and all movement in warp might well be free of physical forces, say.
