Explain your Av!

Mine's very boring - it's me. The day, however was not boring. June 1, 2003 and the wedding of our older daughter.

BTW, let's compare birth certificates. I'm a 1946 model, May 3 to be exact. I know I'm one of the fossils around here but do you have me beat?

Love this thread!

I change my avatars pretty regularly. The one i am using now is from Generations (i love that movie *ducks for cover*), when Soren is waiting for the nexus ribbon to get to him. I just love that scene and image!

DarkJourney - your Avs are always interesting!

Mutai Sho-Rin - I'm a 1967 edition. I wanted to be old red shirt but there is actually already one so: oldstredshrtevr . . . You are very handsome!

Yeoman Randi - I love Generations too! I actually hated it at first but a dozen or so viewings later I'm hooked! I really hated Kirk's death. Sure he was saving the world never having seen him die I didn't have to accept he would have to die. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt! I don't know if I'd be able to watch a movie featuring the death of Spock for sure!

Jinx-01 no explanation needed - love yours!

^JINX I gave up on ENT in the second season (i do hope to get back to it though)...so yes! I don't quite get your av....I'd love to hear what it is about.

I didn't give up. :rommie: I completely get her complete infatuation with a certain Mr. Tucker. And someday, when she isn't looking, I might get my turn.

No need to duck. I liked it too. "Time is the fire in which we burn." And I love that image as well. There is something very beautiful about the ribbon and I love the juxtaposition of a desperate Soren offering himself to it.

OK, in season 4 we ENT fans took delightful Trip ;) into the Mirror Universe where Hoshi was a captain's woman (well, frankly she was anybody's woman as long as it served her purposes); Phlox was a sadistic monster; Vulcans were a conquered race; and Tucker and Reed loathed each other.

So I created the av with Tucker and Reed and lifted the quote from TOS' Balance of Terror, when the Romulan Commander tells Kirk "You and I are of a kind. In a different reality I could have called you friend." I think it works. :)

a scene from District 9. Right at the point where everything really starts to go to hell for our hero.

My Av is the result of having a little childhood left in me in spite of my advanced age, and also the fusion of two loves; Star Trek and barbies!

your av caught my eye b/c I collect fashion dolls. I like how you used that Wicked Witch Barbie doll as one of those green Orion girls. :techman:

Originally I used a photo of the 'real' Miss Chicken as my av. As most people know the 'real' Miss Chicken is my little three legged cat.

One day while browsing I came across an ad for dinnerware which featured on the plates pictures of black cartoon cats with their tails up showing their arseholes. I thought if such pictures are suitable for plates they are suitable for avs. I looked though the plates and found on that had on it a cat that looked like it had only three legs.

The original photo wasn't as good as the av is now as a couple of members have improved it over the years.

There has only been one person who complained about my av (in the Q,S and F forum). Many members of Trekbbs defended my av saying that they love it. I promised that I would continue to use a version of this av no matter what.

It's a picture I took of Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disneyland, one of my favorite places on the planet to be.

I'd love to explain my av but I'm not sure if I need to.
I think mine's pretty self-explanatory, too. But I think I understand where you're comin' from. If I didn't have this gem of an av to use, I'd probably be using a series of Linda Park pics.

Mine was created by a friend from Livejournal - he used it as an icon one day and I just loved it. As a gay Canadian, I'm appalled at how some of the rest of the world is still lagging in giving basic equal rights to LGBT people. (Plus, I loves me a man in uniform. :techman:)

It was particularly apropos there for a while - for nearly a year and a half, I was dating a guy who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Alas, he couldn't see himself moving to Canada at any point in the future, and I couldn't see myself moving to the American South. So for that, among other reasons, we ended our relationship a couple of weeks ago. We ended it on friendly terms, though - in fact, we've chatted on webcam a couple of times this week. I wouldn't be averse to dating another American some day, though they'd have to be interested in coming to Canada. I'm not giving up my equality. :)

^ Ditto. Its message has not been lost on me either. Every time I see it I am tempted to move there all over again. If it wasn't so bloody cold I probably would.

Mine is Sakonna, the Vulcan from the DS9 episode The Maquis. I've always been a bit of a Maquis sympathizer, and I decided to use her as an avatar. My intention was only to have her up for a few weeks before rotating again, but I started to make a name for myself on the board while I had her as an avatar, so I kept her for easy identification. Now I can't imagine myself with a different avatar. The purple hat is a recent addition, growing out of the DS9 5 World Story. I'll probably remove the hat soon, since I'm getting bored with it. (The hat, not the story.)

I have it on good authority, though, that Atlanta is not as hostile as you'd think, even though the laws are different than Canada.

^Your av always puts a smile on my face. :)

Awww, thanks. :)

It's not that bad right now - it was above freezing today. And since I'm single again... ;)

Oh, I know - I've been going to Dragon*Con every year for the past five or so (that's how we met - as I'm sure I've mentioned previously, he was Evil_Admiral's roommate until this past fall), and I know many, if not all, of Atlanta's gay SF fans who attend conventions. They hosted Gaylaxicon in 2007, and I was there for that as well. It's one of the best places in the South to be an out LGBT person - but it's still not Toronto. ;)
