Exeter

OK-I know that this may be asked and answered, we'll see. I just got done watching the Tressaurian Intersection parts 0-3, and I'm wondering if ayone knows the timeline for part four. I'm NOT nagging or complaining, just wondering if we'll see it soon, or if it will be later.

I'm really into the story-kudos to the actors and producers, if it wasn't good, I wouldn't be so compelled to ask.

Anyway, I hope it's soon!

I'm a fan of Exeter, but I must say they have really lost their momentum by releaseing these acts so slowly. I know they have had troubles, but this was shot, what 4 years ago?

I'm also a fan, but really you have to keep things in perspective: they've never promised to be prolific. They are out to make the absolute best episodes they possibly can. The two most important currencies when it comes to any production are money and time. They don't have a lot of money, but on the course they are taking they can take all the time they need.

Contrast that approach with New Voyages, which has committed to a series of episodes on something of a regular schedule, therefore accepting the risk that some aspects of the show might suffer in some places because of time constraints.

Both are wonderful efforts and I admire both production teams for sticking to their visions.

If Exeter were a commercial production aimed at making money, they certainly would have lost momentum as you put it. However, they are working on the show in their spare time and I really can't see what momentum they might have lost. The show is an end in itself and it will be done when it's done.

That said, I'm just as eager as anyone else to see the final, finished product. It's already an amazing accomplishment.

That pretty much nails it, yeah.

Jimm's stated intention when it was decided to do more "Exeter" after "The Savage Empire" was to produce two more videos. As the production grew in complexity, plans to shoot some of the second one simultaneously with "The Tressaurian Intersection" were dropped but it's by no means dead - a script and a fair amount of preproduction have been done on it. When last I spoke with Jimm his intention was still to continue "Exeter."

To the best of my knowledge "Exeter" was never conceived as an ongoing "TV series" that would produce episodes on a regular basis. That said, there's none of us who don't wish we could have gotten TTI finished and released years ago. We are, however, pretty comfortable that the quality of everything released so far is as good as we have been able to make it. Wherever it falls short, we just hit the upper limit of what we were capable of at the time.

The show is an end in itself...

I can't speak for anyone else working on it (I've probably already generalized too much) but that is absolutely my feeling and approach to it. It will be finished, and given the nature of the Internet it'll be floating around out there somewhere pretty much forever.

Act 3 had some real problems, and they did what they had to do to fix it, and it came out awesome.

I don't care how much time it takes, I just care about the result, and the results have been incredible.

I'm glad to hear, after all the hard work and griping and bellyaching he's had to read on boards like these that Jim still wants to do more. I hope Josh still feels the same too.

By the way, there's also a new episode of the EXETER PODCAST on iTunes!

If you are talking about Christmas Day, it's less than four full days now.

If you are talking about Exeter, look out the window, kid. See? Cow!

While I have really enjoyed pretty much all of the Star Trek fan films, I must say that, IMHO, the work on the part of the Exeter group is really the most impressive of the bunch. The writing, acting, effects, and especially the EDITING are the top of the heap. I too became very frustrated with the Exeter folks for the interminable delays between Acts II and III of TTI, but I must say, the wait was worth it. I have no hopes that the next act will come along any time soon, but when it does I will be there watching. I hope they keep doing more eps, but I wonder if TTI may be the last of it.

Quit bouncing up and down on the backseat of the car!
We aren't there yet!

Although, any news is great news.

Oh never mind, I can do this all night. I'll just go back to the basics...

One of my favorite memories of my dad on vacations was that he quite often joined the chorus:

I try to check out every fan production to see if it shares my love for Star Trek or is just a fanboyish outburst. Starship Exeter does indeed share my love. Even the lower quality "Savage Empire" had much higher standards than many other productions. That being said.....

Are we there yet?

Agreed-I really enjoyed "The Savage Empire." It was the first fan film I had ever seen that REALLY captured the feel of TOS. I was positively astonished the first time I watched it-it felt like the 80th episode of TOS! I gave them a pass on the one glaring special effects goof in that episode as the rest of it was so amazing.

I absolutely adore Savage Empire. Sure it's rough, but it shows an understanding of what made TOS what it was, that none of the (understandble) shortcomings ever bothered me.

Roll on TTI Act IV. :)
