Taken from the Starship Excelsior: A Star Trek Fan Production Facebook page:

We are devastated to report that Michael Liebmann, who has played Alex "Bev" Rol on Excelsior since our launch nine years ago, passed away today at 6:17 PM due to complications from surgery.

Michael was a terrific team member behind the scenes -- he was always the first to finish his lines, always had a friendly word to add in readthroughs, and, any time we talked about doing something difficult on Excelsior, Michael would jump in to remind us that *of course* we could do it, because, as he loved to say, "we do the good work, with a phaser in hand and a cheerful smirk."

As the single most prolific voice actor in Star Trek fan works, with credits from Excelsior to Outpost to Mariner to Lego Titan, Michael touched tens of thousands of lives, and will be greatly missed. The Excelsior 50th Anniversary episode will be dedicated to his memory.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 29th, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Simi Valley, California. Our prayers and condolences are with his spirit and his family.

There's not much more to be said after that loving tribute, but I will add that Michael's great work in the crucial role of the by turns sinister, by turns heroic Alex "Bev" Rol helped make Excelsior such a great listen over the years. Shalom, Michael. You may be gone, but we will cherish you and your loving spirit forever as we struggle to live up to your "catchphrase" -- Mike

This is a great loss to the entire community, and not just Excelsior. If you've ever listened to practically any voice-acted fan Star Trek, you've heard Michael's voice. Heck, you may not have realized it, but you probably heard him more than once. The man put himself out there in so many different ways to so many different shows over the years, it's hard to fathom a fan-Trek voice acting future without Michael in it.

Michael Liebmann was the voice of the Preserver "ghost" in THE NIGHT THE STARS FELL FROM THE SKY, and appears on camera at 01:28 in CLOSING TIME as Lt. Cmdr. Jack Leitner, one of the ducklings.

He was always eager for additional roles. We never had much for him, but he was enthusiastic about what we did give him.

Warp Speed, Michael...

Was sad to hear of his passing. I didn't know him well but we spoke from time to time and I was familiar with his work. Gone before his time.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Condolences to his family and the rest of his friends.
