Excelsior going after Koenig and Nichols

We have received word that Walter Koenig has approved our script and is willing to join our production. About halfway through the fundraiser we are about halfway to the stretch goal that will allow us to bring him onboard. Any help with our Kickstarter will be greatly appreciated!

Just laid down 10 bucks. Renegades is in the works but an audio drama with Uhura and Chekov too would also be grand!

I wasn't going to post, because Mike is handling this thread so well without me, but Danlav's support compels me to come out of lurkmode and say thanks.

Thank you, Danlav05! It is genuinely appreciated, and a real help. We think we have a really good story to tell here, and we appreciate you putting your faith in us to tell it.

Now that I'm scared outta lurkmode for a minute, I'll answer other questions that have arisen:

Just out of curiosity, did you have to meet the actors standard asking rate, or did your negotiations allow you to agree on a 'better' price? (it's alright if you don't want/can't answer the question).

I'm going to be cryptic here and answer, "Neither." I'm sorry that's not very enlightening, but it's about all I'm comfortable saying about our discussions.

Well, technically, he was already willing. The question was whether he'd ask us to rewrite the whole script first!

(That he didn't is very good news, because we're really happy with the story we have.)

Today, we worked on setting recording dates (presuming the funding comes through) (which I am confident it will). Walter was clear that he wants to get the episode recorded before Renegades films, which gives us a hard deadline in the relatively near future for his involvement. (We had previously thought that Walter just wanted us to release the episode before Renegades II, but now it's clear that we need to record it before Renegades II.) That suits us fine, though; we want to get this recorded ASAP so we can spend as long as possible in post-production before September 8th, 2016.

The drive for Chekov continues. We hope you can join us and help us make a show worthy of the 50th anniversary of TOS. :)

We are pleased to announce that we are scheduled to have Ms. Nichols in studio to record her lines before the end of this month. We are still optimistic that we will raise the necessary amount to bring in Walter Koenig as well.

That's quite alright; I don't know what's considered public information in this kind of setting. I loved Koenigs role in B5 (hated that smarmy bastard tho! :p) so good to see he's still around.
Good luck on getting the job done!

At.

Hope you like it.

They have committed to do the show if the Kickstarter succeeds. As per the Kickstarter page it will take about $5600 to bring in Ms. Nichols. The first stretch goal to bring in Mr. Koenig would be $12,500.

So Koenig, wants 6,900 for his voice, I wonder what Takei would want ...

I wouldn't say that figure is quite right since there is a starter contribution of personal funds, but you are close. As far as Mr. Takei is concerned, the question is moot since he simply was not available for the project. (We did try).

Takei is busy with his Broadway musical, based loosely on his childhood so a very personal project. 10 years ago I believe they wanted Sulu, Chekov and Uhura as the trio for Of Gods and Men however Takei had already done World Enough and Time for New Voyages, thus being his contribution to the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek.

This situation mirrors it, however Koeing and Nichols' characters were the two least developed during the officinal movies and series, so it will be excellent to have them both back in Renegades and (hopefully) Excelsior. Are they onboard Sulu's old ship or another one? Enterprise-B?

Remember though just like 10 years ago we are getting Sulu solo for a 'new' adventure with Yorktown: A Time To Heal - OK the project is over 30 years old but it wasn't finished and footage/FX has been completed over the past few years, so it will be kind of new!

I really want Yorktown to come out. It's a piece of history too long incomplete! Do you really think they'll finish next year? (Did they announce anything to that effect?)

I like surprises, so this is an indirect answer that still has some interesting information in it and so hopefully isn't a complete disappointment.

It's astonishing how few canonical starships there are from the Lost Era. Heck, even pulling in non-canon -- for any given year between 2293 and 2350 or so, you're going to have five, maybe six really solid options open to you. In our episode, I think we mention or see all of the options (and then some!) for our year: the Enterprise-B, Excelsior, the Stargazer, the Challenger, and then some demi-/non-canon pals like Falcon and Universe.

I leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine what years the episode could be set in. :)

We reached $9,500 today, with 8 days left! We're still on track to bring aboard Walter Koenig, if the pace holds steady!

Yorktown is scheduled to be finished for Spetember 2016.

With 7 days left we are currently at $9700 which is $2800 short of the stretch goal that would bring Walter Koenig on board. But...we do have a challenge from a donor who really, REALLY wants to make this happen. If we can get to $11,000, this donor will contribute another $1,500 to put us over the top. With your help we can make this happen. If you're new to this topic, you can find the details, including how to contribute at www.starshipexcelsior.com

Thank you for your support!

When we rolled out our Kickstarter to enable us to add Captains Chekov and Uhura to Star Trek: Excelsior we promised fast action if we made our goals. Well, we have made our goals and with less than 3 days to go on the campaign we have completed our recording sessions with Ms. Nichols and Mr. Koenig. How's that for living up to promises?

well to be that guy  if you count the movie Of Gods and Men in your canon it's set in 2306; Chekov starts the movie as a Captain in the end he's an Admiral; so that narrows it down! :vulcan:
