I thought it was widely accepted that the reman and starfleet groups clashed somewhere between Deck 29 and Deck 1, seeing as the Remans would have made their way up and not simply stood still.

^All the doors in those scenes are labelled "Deck 9" and the novel goes further by having the fighting taking place on Decks 8 and 9 with a group of Remans heading for the medical triage set up in the saucer shuttlebay.

Not to backtrack, but what length did you use for your Excelsior cross section? I'm guessing not the pseudo-official 467 m... I'd guess you based it more on the Drexler-scaled GENS one?

I'm not sure of the length.
I just traced the outline after taking the most accurate side profile I could find after comparing dozens and then drew the interior to apporiximate scale. No calculators or stuff like that.

467 meters is the only length I've heard about for Excelsior. That seems to work...

At 467 meters, Excelsior would have 23 decks. It would be about 50 percent longer than Enterprise-A, which looks about right...

What is the other length you're talking about? And how many decks would it have?

I can't see it as any bigger than that.

The deck diagram in GENS shows the Enterprise-B with a lot more decks, making for a much longer ship. Ex Astris has a good article about it. The 467 is supposed to be the original intention, but there are questions regarding scaling and window placement. When I was working on my on-hold Excelsior tech manual, it was a good resource. And, to be perfectly honest, it's hard to argue with how well bmused55's placements work, even if it looks bigger than 467, which really doesn't bother me a ton.
