Excellent Guest Stars Of STAR TREK...

Star Trek definitely made its guest actors work for their money. No wooden performances, everybody had to give it their all

Agreed. From what Bob Justman has said, TOS production was hard work but morale was high because they felt they were accomplishing the creation of an exciting and innovative television show...at least for the first 2 seasons.

Some normally bland, boring actors like Ricardo Montalban, Elinor Donahue and Gary Lockwood give their best performances in TOS

I'm currently watching through DS9, and my favorite character is a guest: Garak. Anderw Robinsons portrayal of the character is perfect, and couldn't have been done better. Altough he is a recurring character, this should be a valid choice for this thread. As for one-time appearences. I remember Lee Meriwether's performance from TOS well. I don't remember the episodes or her characters names though.

Not really. This is the Star Trek Original Series Forum. So topics in here only refer to TOS.

You're not wrong about Garak, though. He's awesome.

Which guest star should have been a regular member of the Enterprise crew, but never made it past a single episode (more or less)?

I thought Emily Banks would have fit in nicely as a new Captain's Yeoman after Rand was given the boot. Too bad....

For excellence in delivery of a speech, surely the best guest star is Elisha Cook Jr. in "Court Martial"; the impact is even greater because act 3 ends with the speech: "In the name of humanity fading in the shadow of the machine, I demand it. I demand it!" Every time I see a speed camera (Montgomery County, MD) I think of this speech.

I think I preferred Andrew Robinson as Larry Cotton in Hellraiser (1987) myself! :D

He'll always be the Scorpio killer from Dirty Harry to me. The bit just after he takes a busload of kids hostage permanently typecast him in my mind:

Bus Kid: Where are we going?

The Killer: We're going to the ice-cream factory and see how ice-cream's made. Now anybody who doesn't wanna go can get off right here.

Bus Kid: I wanna go home to my mommy.

The Killer: [slaps the kid] Stupid kid! Come on sing everyone! Sing or I'll go home and kill all your mommies, sing, sing!

I think I read somewhere they considered Roddy McDowall.

Hmmm...I can see that. It would be different because Roddy isn't as menacing, but he could definitely have pulled off the dangerous spoiled child aspect, I think.

You know who would have made an interesting choice? Liberace. I'm serious. Michael Garrison tried to get him to play a killer on The Wild Wild West but it didn't happen for whatever reason. I think he would have made a great Trelane. He's got the hair, the flamboyance, the piano skills, and he could probably supply his own wardrobe.

Scorpio was brilliant in Dirty Harry! That is Robinson's best role bar none! The sayings from that film are legendary along with his manic laugh but sadly Clint Eastwood has said he'd never act with Robinson ever again because he felt it would ruin the impact of that film! Strange because most of the other actors in it he always has with him in his motion pictures!
"I swear it as God is my Judge!" "My, that's a big one!" "No, no, no, you tried to kill me!" "I have the right to a lawyer..!" "You rotten oinker!":guffaw::rommie::rofl:

David Garrovick as head of security in Obsession, Dr.Helen Noel as a regular guest star and maybe Lt.Giotto as security chief in the first season on a part time regular basis! Dr.M'Benga only appeared twice but maybe should have been seen a couple of times more as well!
