Excel 2010 Question

I guess this goes here, if not you can woosh! it, but it should be a brief thread (I hope)

In my Excel use I have to type/past email address a lot. Excel automatically formats them as an email hyperlink, so later when I need to copy an email address from my open Excel file if I click on the cell with email address it automatically opens Outlook, which I don't want it to do and I don't use.

I'm not a super Excel user. I don't know how to unformat the file (or column) so that it treats an email address simply as text so I can just click on the cell and copy/paste the email address w/out all the Outlook crap.

Okay, start by entering one email address into a cell, then press Enter. It should turn it into a link.

Below the first letter of the email address should be a little blue bar. Hover your cursor over this and it should turn into a lightning bolt--it's the AutoCorrect menu. Click it and pick "Stop Automatically Creating Hyperlinks." Done!

Thanks! Is there something similar I can do to make any copy/paste appear as the font, size and color that is standard? I do a lot of copy/pasting from email, and if the kids have their email set to big, fancy purple font that's what gets pasted and then I have to go change it.

Can I make it so no matter what I paste it automatically shows up as say, Arial 12?

Right now to keep from having to change the font, size and color when copy from email, I keep a note pad doc open, copy from the email, paste to note pad, then copy from note pad and paste in Excel. Those are extra steps, but it bugs me less than having to change all those in Excel. I'd still like to eliminate that step if I could.

Maybe Robert Maxell has a better answer but from my experience, it's not really doable, because Excel is by design made to accept any OLE compatible formatting, no matter what the source is. So if you're copying huge purple letter out of an E-mail (which is likely opened in IE or Outlook, or even MS Word) it will automatically want to paste the exact same format into your Excel. You will get a similar option as the previous one, where you can "Keep source formatting/Match destination formatting" etc etc. So you'd want to pick "Match destination formatting" so that it reformats to whatever your stock Excel font is.

Instead of changing after pasting with the "match destination formatting" option, you can paste without any formatting. Click on the arrow below the paste button in the tab, then select "paste special", then choose "text". That will paste the text only with the destination formatting.

I don't know of any way to make that the default. if nobody here knows how to do it, go ask over at the Excel Forum. If it is possible, someone there will know.
