"EXPLORERS" and "IN THE CARDS" are two of my favorites of the series because of the father/son story in the former, and how Jake just wanted to do something nice for his dad in the latter. Sometimes the simplest story/plot can be among the very best tv one can watch.
The Siskos on a trip. Jake tries to buy a baseball card.
I imagine those episodes were pitched as just a single sentence like that, and they were both wonderful episodes.
One of DS9's strengths was its ability to have 'day in the life' episodes like those and not feel like it's just tacked on or boring.
