EW article: writers "looking at... old episodes for inspiration"

Maybe it's a slow news day, but CN has a picture of Pine's Kirk on the front page, and talk of the sequel. That link goes here.

Interesting article.

What is more interesting is that one of the other links at the bottom of that page ha someone proposing that Khan should be played by a woman. LOL

Re: Offical ST XII update(guys you need to read this)

Looking to old Star Trek episodes and novels for inspiration is no bad thing - what rebooted franchise doesn't recycle elements of it's past? For example, when did a Batman film last create a new enemy?

If they bring back a TOS character, it doesn't have to be an exact duplictate of the original any more than First Contact's Zephram Cochrane was of the one in "Metamorphosis". The possibilities are endless:).

Nor a new thing. Isn't this how they framed their discussion of the previous movie?

Anyway when they say no Khan and infer they won't be using obvious villains (which the article writer uses to mean Klingons) I do wonder if that means they want to use a less obvious TOS antagonist as a starting point. The first film did have Christopher Pike, after all...
