Evil of the Daleks blu-ray & dvd announced

The animation reminded me of this:

Watching the Shapeshifter featurette - yes I did end up buying the Web of Fear DVD in order to support the line - reading between the lines I got the impression that they'll be using this technique to animate Marco Polo, The Crusades, The Highlanders and The Dalek Masterplan. Probably so that they can put out B&W era Blu-Ray season box sets.

Yeah, I thought it very indicative that the 4 serials that the animation producers have said in the past are the most problematic all flashed up during the feature. I'll take this over nothing, though it'd be nice if they could do better faces next time around. If they still need more practice, work on underwater menace :)

To answer your query I got the impression that Evil of the Daleks would be done like the earlier animated reconstructions. Here's a trailer:

Yep, Evil is going to be a 2D one.

I am a bit annoyed, though, when a subpar result of animation effort (and all kudos to the production team that probably didn't have the proper time period to work on this endeavour) is promoted over other pieces of animation that are worthier. Certainly around the time Ian Levine's Shada fan-made animation was leaked, most naysayers and anti-Levine folk proclaimed that the end result was not fit for wide distribution. Yet this is?

I have a theory that if, if that private collector returns episode three this side of the release of the season five Blu-Ray box set (and with time enough for the episode to be restored to the same state as the other five), that the colourised six episodes won't be on the disc(s) covering WOF at all and, just as the episode three telesnap reconstruction is now an orphaned DVD/Blu-Ray extra on the SE so to will the B&W animated episode three be on the Blu-Ray box set.

Got this the other day, and have watched all the eps. imo on the animation side this is the best they've done (except invasion of course).

I don't watch the recons or audio only versions of missing eps, so this was my first time experiencing Evil, and it's a very good serial. Enjoyed it a ton.

I'm still waiting for Marco Polo. And this isn't available via Amazon in the US until November.

Cheeky Monks!
To explain, there is a poster for the Cheeky Monks in episode one. It was a fandom joke in the 90s, due to a pub photo of a monk who looked like Andre Previn grinning while eating macaroni. A fake episode guide for The Cheeky Monk was written.

I'm looking forward to watching this. I've got the UK blu-ray on order. I've been getting a lot of those lately for the animated stuff since they are only being released on DVD in the US (the jagged look of upscaled DVD bothers me).

As stated elsewhere, if you are in the US then you have to be sure that your equipment can properly play the 1080/50i content of the UK blu-rays, even if the BDs are all-region.

Never watched this before. Watching it now. Am on episode 3.

Man, this is proper good. I mean, some hiccups, like Jamie being pushed around in episodes 2 and 3, but I like the dialogue and overall writing. It feels like distinct Whittaker, and I guess I shouldn't have been surprised since he did pen Power of the Daleks too.

Just finished watching this. The animation wasn't a problem for me. I'm just glad to be able to watch this at all. They animated everything including episode 2 (the only episode of it they had). I think you have to give credit where it's due. They had very little to go on making these. The Dalek city on Skaro reminds me very much of the Skaro seen in modern Doctor Who, not sure which inspired which though.
As for the serial itself I was a bit disappointed. 'The Power of the Daleks' is still on top for me. Evil gets going towards the end.
Skimmed through some of the extras which are extensive, they are probably worth the purchase alone.

It's one of the best Troughton stories and one of the best Dalek stories overall. I find it infinitely preferable to The Power of the Daleks. I have never seen the animation, but I watched the recon a few years back and it's captivating even in that form.

It's the point at which Troughton's performance as the Doctor really coalesces and I think that's in no small part because he finally gets to cement the Troughton/Hines double act that goes on to become a staple of the era.
