Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

Gosh. Almost like characters going on a journey.
Of…Discovery?:shifty:

The article describes Goldsman’s view in a manner that is open to debate in terms of whether, or to what degree, there are “problems” with Kirk as portrayed in TOS. But there is nothing in the article to suggest Goldsman disdains the character overall. That type of reading of the statement assumes much not in evidence. Moreover, it’s extremely unrealistic to expect screenplays or teleplays to simply mimic those from over a half century ago—Trek is not a documentary nor a period piece, it’s a piece of entertainment reflecting the themes of its production time. As was TOS, of course.

It's all kind of silly since we've seen SNW Kirk being...Kirk. Hell, he even has his womanizing moments with La'an. Pretty sure if Year One would happen he'd get in his manly fist fights and charm some space alien lady, or whatever nostalgia-goggleness makes Kirk perceived as manly.

...this is a lot of obsession over a guy being all manly tbh... nothing weird about that...

There is nothing SNW Kirk does that Prime Kirk didn't do.

If (to get back to the thread topic) we were to view SNW as evidence of an alternate timeline, this is how I would describe it:

TOS happens as is. It’s what we’ve been watching for 60 years. TOS leads to Movie Era and to TNG. TNG leads to DS9 and VOY and concurrent movies.

First Contact leads to first major timeline shift because of what Cochrane and Lily learned, and the Borg debris. Cochrane and Lily don’t make major changes but foreknowledge ripples forward and subtle, cumulative changes lead to ENT. The Borg debris accelerates Borg awareness of Alpha Quadrant and its inhabitants.

ENT leads to DSC/SNW which leads to TOS (where just about everything occurs as before but with the aesthetics of SNW). TOS and SNW are each reasonable predecessors to Movie Era aesthetics (merely need a slight squint). Then on as before to TNG era. Which leads to PIC. S3+ DSC moves far enough forward to not worry about it. SFA follows directly from DSC. No issues.

S31 is set in a timeframe largely unknown, so no real issues there.

As for animation: TAS is immediately after original TOS, LD fits nicely right after TNG, and PRO seems to fit between LD and PIC.

Now the above is NOT how I personally interpret Trek. I just take them at their word (just as I take every time travel story rules as given, since no time travel story survives close scrutiny). But if someone asked me to come up with an alternate timeline interpretation, I’d use the above as the general framework and adjust accordingly where needed.

If tos no longer looks like it did than that means there was a change due to time travel interference. Right?

That's just way too complicated in my opinion. I'm still partial to my idea that only Cage looked like SNW aesthetics (due to the crews' minds being messed with from Rigel VII, we're seeing the action from their perspective where it's not entirely accurate), and there just was a refit of the Enterprise (and maybe other Constitution class ships) between SNW and TOS. Probably for the galactic barrier mission; as I mentioned before maybe all that fancy tech on the SNW Enterprise would've blown up outright and "retro" tech had to be installed and they just left it that way after WNMHGB.
