Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

Personally, and I've said this before, I think making Strange New Worlds an alternate timeline does a disservice to both it and TOS. The connection between the two shows and between the characters makes both series better. Giving these classic characters rich and interesting backstories does nothing but enhance them in my eyes.

From my POV, the characters just don’t really remind me of TOS.

Some would. Some did exactly that when Star Trek 2009 came around. I remember people saying that because it was an alternate timeline, it didn't matter and wasn't "real" Star Trek.
"But it's the same Spock."

"Don't care"

"But we see the prime timeline in the film."

"not listening LALALALALALALALA"

I totally see it as an alternate timeline. I know some people don't like that view but there it is. SNW and DISCO retconned so much stuff I just can't see it as a natural extension of TOS.

I still enjoy some of it though.

I don't see why the get so hung up on it having to be the Prime timeline. The nice thing with ST09 was a separate timeline allows new fresh stories. By shoehorning yourself into the Prime timeline you're putting yourself into a corner that doesn't allow much if any risk. All the characters from TOS will survive because they are destined to survive. Imagine how much better SNW would be if we didn't know that the future holds for our characters. A Pike that isn't destined as a mute cripple in a chair, a Kirk that isn't destined to be captain of the Enterprise. They teased us with that at the end of Season 1 and that had the potential for so much more interesting storytelling.

Just too much time has passed.

Uhura, while clearly an important and groundbreaking character for the 1960s, was never given much character development beyond her role on the bridge. We knew very little about her personal life, her struggles, or what it took for her to get there. Now I can watch TOS and see her differently. I know her pains, her struggles, and what it took for her to earn that place on the bridge.

The same can be said for Spock, Chapel, Kirk, and the others. Each of them has been enriched by what Strange New Worlds has shown us, in my opinion. Taking that away by declaring it an alternate timeline would do nothing but diminish those characters.

None of what they have shown us in SNW makes me see the TOS characters differently. I liked them just as they are. The prequel stuff especially for Chapel and Spock does not fit well with TOS. They clearly never had a relationship. We even know 6 years.

So I do not think declaring Kurtzman prequel trek an alternate reality would diminish tos at all. Its always been fine as it was.

When we factor in all the material over the years, these characters have all had multiple stories showing where they came from. SNW is just another one. Hard for me to get excited because it is covering a lot of material already covered by novels and comics over the decades.

Even one where Kirk and Spock join Starfleet Academy...

Books and Comics don’t count. I’ve forgotten most of the plots of the comics and novels. Except that one with Steve the Vulcan.

It improves both of them.

TOS is an alternate timeline that branches off of the SNW Prime Timeline - SNW happens first, and their history and culture match up with our reality better than TOS..:p

Enterprise: The First Adventure by Vonda McIntyre.

They do for me, since I gave Paramount my money and read them. They count exactly the same as SNW or Enterprise or any of the rest.
Did them for over a decade. Liked the way DC would have to juggle things when a new film came out and two years of stories had to be shoved in the closet.
