Every 3 to 5 Seconds

A few days ago some sort of interference started bombarding my place. It only effects 2 things however, one station on one radio and a TV set. Nothing else is effected.

On the radio, on only one station, it sounds like someone slowly breathing out their mouth right into a open microphone.

haaaaaghghgh...(3 to 5 seconds)haaaaaghghgh...(3 to 5 seconds)haaaaaghghgh... etc.

On the TV, on all channels, it manifests as a series of horizontal interference lines. Not so bad the program cannot be seen but enough to notice and become irritated by its constant, predictable repetition. The TV sound is not affected.

The sound from the radio and the interference on the TV match times of occurrence and duration so I am sure they are being caused by the same... whatever it is.

It has, from time to time, completely stopped for a few seconds or even up to a minute or two but then returns.

I've asked the neighbors if anyone recently bought and began using some new electronic item but not so.

Anyone with a similar report to make, hints or suggestions for what to do?

Yeah, this sort of thing usually starts up during a period of alien abductions. It will quiet down again after they're done in your area.

Change your aluminum foil.

Yours has worn out

seriously, might just be weather inversions

or some work on the electricity grid.

or you need to get your ears and eyes sheched

sorry I had no real answers

Out of curiosity, are you in Portland?

A bunch of people on the XM boards have been complaining about the city's new Wi-Max network affecting satellite radio coverage there; apparently the launch of the network perfectly coincides with reception trouble people started having.

EDIT: Upon further reading, it sounds like Sirius XM took down a bunch of repeaters which improved the signal in the city. Double oops. Forget I said anything.

I don't have any good answers either, but I'm looking forward to the ones that are bound to be offered.

I did that!

Nope. Thanks for that, could be important...

In my experience adding one more layer always helps :bolian:

Have you noticed any blue police boxes mysteriously appearing and then later disappearing in your neighborhood?

Sounds like they're using our own satellites against us. Check and see if there's a countdown embedded in the signal.

We once had a stereo that could pick up the CB radio of the guy across the road. He used to spend time running down other people in the street down so I invited the neighbours in for a night of listening to him. He said really nasty things about my neighbours and about me but we were just laughing at him.

Maybe you should ask the neighbours if they could be responsible in any way.

Can you run the radio on batteries and see if the interferance is coming in via radio frequencies vs. through the electrical wires? I've got a cell phone that makes my speakers periodically go, "beep-bupbup-beep-bupbup-beep-bupbup-beep-bupbup-beep."

If it's the electrical lines, I think you can buy filters for that problem.

My money is on a new electrical item someone installed that's putting out radio interference. You didn't say whether you're getting broadcast, cable, or satellite tv (but I'm guessing broadcast?)

Is there a suspicious looking van parked nearby? It could be that the FBI have you under surveillance.

I could try batteries in the radio, (have to get some first.) Cable on all TV's but only, (checks child's room) two of three has the interference.

It's possible.

If it's a strong signal or interference, it's usually much easier to hear between stations. Test AM and FM. If it's AM, you can actually turn the radio to point at the source...it should get stronger. Only problem is you probably don't know how your AM antennae is oriented inside the box.

For FM, it should just be a simple matter of walking around.

After further investigation I find, on the radio, the entire AM band is affected. FM is not effected at all and, btw, it has digital tuning.

If I pick up the radio, while tuned to AM and rotate it, no noticeable difference in the interference occurs.

Also, in case it matters, of the two effected TVs only one has a cable box, the other is connected directly to the wire.
