Of course they are, we're outside companies working for the company you are calling.

And they won't know which company you're calling about unless you use the correct #.

Most call centers take calls for dozens (or hundreds?) of companies.

well, when i worked for XM the call center i worked at only had three other clients. but, XM customers could dial a number that would immediately take them to our XM line.

We have three different clients, but Charter's number comes directly to us.

Oh, and if you work as a telemarketer you deserve any abuse you get. Some jobs you have to be evil to do.

Honestly, I think the nicest thing you can do for a telemarketer is hang up on them as soon as you realize what they are (assuming you have no interest). They're either calling down a list or a machine is doing it for them, and letting them get on to the next number (and potential customer) as quickly as possible is best for them and for you.
