Oh, I think it's still going to be a Family Guy punchline, if at the very least for the fact that there are enough fans totally devoted to hating anything that is different from everything that came before. SNL did some mocking of the fans totally against a re-imagining only a week or two ago with Pine, Quinto and Nimoy! I thought it was pretty fun! No, Star Trek (or at least the fandom) is still going to be a punchline.
Pure Trek is still nothing more than a Family Guy punchline to the unwashed masses.

Family Guy? No, this film is a South Park level joke. Otherwise, I enjoyed it and yeah, it's good to have Trek back again, though I never felt like it was gone; Just taking a much needed rest to recharge the batteries.
The buzz for this film will create an advance buzz for the next--of course, buzzes can quickly be killed.
Hopefully it won't be Star Trek XII: Buzzkill.

I am glad it's back in the movie-going public's consciousness, at least, and am hopeful that the attention will lead to a sequel that I will have a stronger feeling for.

Not especially. I equate to gushing over the Transformers movie. Existing Trek fans have to overlook a plethora of shortcomings and the general public will have completely forgot about it by July....Aren't you glad that it's back in the public consciousness in a way that it's not a Family Guy punchline? Be happy.

Look at it like this. You have a favourite restaurant; it's a little hole in the wall that makes food that you love, but most folks don't agree with you. The restaurant does well enough, not spectacularly but they're not going under. One day, however, in an effort to drum up more business, the owner completely changes the menu; the food you loved is no longer on the menu, replaced by utterly generic choices that, when you taste them, have little in the way of flavour or taste to your senses. The decor has also been changed, and not for the better.
So, in this situation, would you be happy?

Not at this cost, no.
That depends on what a "fan" is. Is it some dude who will see XII because XI had lots of 'splosions or a person who becomes interested in Trek's previous incarnations and watches some of them? If we're referring to the latter, than no I don't think so. Within my circle of friends, all of them loved this movie but not a one will be seeking out any other trek. XI was just a good summer action flick... and Spock was hot.
