Eva Green cast as female lead in Dark Shadows

For the most part, I dislike the idea of recasting characters and I dislike remakes, reboots and re-imaginings. Sufficient quality can always override that, of course, but the original is always the original. As far as the Dark Shadows of the 90s went, Jim Fyfe and Joanna Going were very well cast. Ben Cross also did a good job, but he just wasn't right for Barnabas.

Agreed. I enjoyed Lysette Anthony and Jean Simmons, as well.

You must hate, hate, the last 400 years of Shakespeare plays, what with each and every one of them being a recasting, remake, reboot and/or reimagining. ;)

^^ Not at all. I love theater, but it's a completely different animal, like live music.

The whole cast was really pretty good, as was the production in general.

I loved the 90's remake and almost felt guilty that I liked almost all of the new actors better than the originals. The two I didn't care for were the new Angelique and Maggie. They were great but 'my' Angelique will always be Lara Parker and 'my' Maggie is Katherine Leigh Scott. Saw both of them recently at Comic-Con and they're both still lovely.

Finally caught up with this thread. Unfortunately, I'm still nto sure about JD and HBC's looks from the photos. I need to see them in action to see if it si right, you know? As opposed to them just being Burton Freaky. HBC's head title reminds me of the Crazy Aunt Cora in the Poirot After the Funeral Episode.

I am glad it is set in 1972 though. Though I find it strange someone had to explain that that was why the clothes looked like they do. EG looks great, again it is the other people here I'm interested in, not the same old Burton trio.

But who is the other blonde, not CCM, and the old lady sitting in the back?

Also, for those interested, I did catch up to House of Dark Shadows in my horror viewing marathons. Man, when I'm away from the board I can accomplish a lot!

Nice avatar, too Shin :)

Thanks, Shin

Victoria Winters is blonde? And why did they cast Carolyn so young? Are they combining Maggie and Vicky for the Josette lookalike business? Weird that they went for young and then maid Mrs. Johnson like a toe towards death. Really would love to see the original cast done up for their cameos!

This is so in Tim Burton's wheelhouse, should be decent. I know it wasn't so well received but I liked Alice and this seems like the right project for him.

yeah, the Victoria in this just feels...off. and from what i've been able to piece together it seems they are going to combine Maggie/Vicky/Josette kinda like the revival did.

as for Carolyn they've said there is a reason she was cast so young and she has some dark secret.

No need for them to be creating new Carolyn secrets when there are so many other DS secrets from which to already choose. Maybe they will make her the phoenix? Are they definitely confirming Vicky as Elizabeth's daughter too then, I wonder?

i've read that a young Victoria was cast. rumor is that they will confirm she is Liz's daughter. even though it was confirmed in an audio story i'd like to finally see it on film as well.

as for Carolyn's secret...i dunno what it could be. but yeah, there are so many DS secrets that they don't need to create new ones.

i think a good sequel would be the 1897 story. doing that not only gives us Quentin but Laura.

Quentin is Quentin, after all! And Truly, after these big 2, there isn't that many really good lengthy storylines to adapt. Leviathans? The Dream curse? I think not.

Unless they do a 1795 prequel. Once we get a feel for the cast, it might be neat if they kept players rotating and playing their ancestors again.

Although I just did Set 12 and am so so tired of Ned Stuart swearing he isn't Jeff Clark! Eh.

ugh, i hated hated the Dream Curse. i didn't think the Leviathans was completely terrible. i think they killed off Paul and Amanda far too early. after Amanda is gone Quentin just kinda stands around and doesn't have much to do.

While I didn't quite like Amanda, one of the things I distinctly remember most about watching the show as a kid is her and Quentin trying to escape hell and at the last moment he grabs her hand! Ahhh!

Nobody liked the Dream Curse. Maybe the Leviathans themselves weren't so bad, but it also had that shadow chasing Chris Penncock around then, too which was really hokey! But outside of the horrible oranges and seventies stripes the 1970 PT was really good.

That would be a good way to reset if this one goes bad. No, no, this is PT! :p

lol yeah the shadow part of the Leviathans story was pretty silly, even for DS. as for Amanda i felt like they could have did more with her character. i mean she was pretty much brought to life from a painting and i though they could have explored that. kinda like how when they messed with Angelique's painting it had consequences.

Although I must say, I do like Amanda much more than Daphne. Despite not caring for Kate Jackson, I've seen all her shows! No chance of seeing Gerard as a film villain, though. The 1840 ghosts and final PT was hardly ever shown in syndication. It is kind of a Quentin rehash- even though after the 1897 trip technically his haunting never happened. And yet the Head of Judah Zachary stuff really freaks me out still.

I know now that I've gotten some of the dvd sets I should depart the old VHS they replace, but I just can't!

If this movie is being turned around this quickly, we should be seeing a lot more soon. You'd think the October before we be a good time for their press to begin.
