Eva Green cast as female lead in Dark Shadows

Tim Burton's Dark Shadows is in pre-production, with Johnny Depp set to play Barnabas Collins. Now Eva Green has been cast as the female lead, Angelique. Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcoate are in final negotiations to play Willie Loomis and Victoria Winters respectively.

Okay, I can live with that.

I assume we're getting Helena Bonham-Carter as Julia Hoffman?

Yay about the casting, but after so many delays with this one I'll believe it when I see it. :)

I really hope this isn't too weird and over the top and that Burton gets it right. Some of his recent Depp collaborations have been iffy for me. Eh, we'll see. I'm enjoying my original DVDs.

Good news. Hopefully Burton won't fuck this up by getting too weird and freaky.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Good to know that casting is moving forward, beyond Depp. Hopefully, this will help remove the bad taste left in my mouth by Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes.

^ Just his Planet of the Apes? I'm glad I'm not the only one unhappy with his stuff anymore.

The Revival wasn't that bad. Do you mean that WB or some such pilot that never aired?

Everything post- Sleepy Hollow is just too out there for me. Although I like Depp for the role, I really think these two together ate seriously stale. If there was some Sleepy Hollow styles here, I think that's the right way to go. Not...weird.

Anyway. Who else should be cast? Who's for a solid matriarch dame for Elizabeth Stoddard. If Green as Angelique is dark haired, I wonder how else they'll do the other women- Victoria Winters namely, Maggie, Carolyn. Have they even said when and where they'll do their storyline? Contemporary Barnabas retelling or period 18th century origins? Heck, why not keep it in the sixties? There's so many ways for Burton to do this wrong and only a very small margin to get it right. ;)

Seriously, again

Don't get me wrong, I like a few Johnny Depp/Burton Movies, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, (Is Sleepy Hollow His?)

Johnny Depp just isn't right for every Burton Project (Willy Wonka for instance, and even if Johnny Depp gave the performance of a lifetime, I'm just not sure he could fit my Barnabas, he's too different from the character embedded in my brain). I have no doubt Johnny Depp could do a Vampire well, just not this one, IMHO.

Also, not sure how a movie might work, the remake series was fairly truncated at only 13 episodes for a season

Anyone wanna convince me how this could be great?

you're not alone. i disliked his Planet of the Apes and hated his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. and i felt Alice was very overrated.

Ugh.

Stop it. Tim Burton. JUST! STOP!

That College Humor video of him working with his crew on his idea of a Little Red Riding Hood movie is just about spot on. Sarah Bonham Carter. Johnny Depp. Danny Elfman.

UGH!

Darks Shadows was an okay show from what I've seen of it, hardly something worthy of a lot of dedication but... sheeeessshhh. You just know Tim Burton is going to fuck this up and it's going to be overly morose, go gray it might as well be in black-n-white and even with a talented cast they're going to be so watered down in macabre and speaking like they just took half a bottle of Valium that the movie is going to be utterly unwatchable.

How much longer before Burton becomes such a big joke of a film-maker that he's no longer marketable? How long before he gets the "M. Night Shymalan" effect?

Shit's getting old, Tim. Do something different, will you?

Eva Green I was hoping would be Talia in "The Dark Knight Rises" even though she wasn't in the running for any part :( Her signing onto this project has me intrigued now. A friend of the family is a HUGE Dark Shadows fan and is looking forward to this movie. Also I wouldn't be surprised if Helena had a part in this. I think there was some mention in the early going that she would have a part.

Hopefully this will turn out to be good, but I'm not going to be surprised if it doesn't. Aside from Sweeney Todd and Big Fish, I haven't liked anything he's done since Sleepy Hollow (though I haven't seen Corpse Bride).

As with all remakes, I am dubious about this, but with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp involved I am cautiously optimistic. At first glance, Depp doesn't seem right for Barnabas, but his transformative powers as an actor are pretty amazing. I just hope that Burton is able to go with Gothic and avoid surreal. But he's definitely nutty enough to actually film this in B&W and set it in the 60s, which would be great.

I just hope this doesn't turn out to be another "Alice in Wonderland" what was once a terrific really fun script was turned into a wreck once Burton came on board.

I don't know. Can't you picture Barnabas as someone who wears heavy over-the-top makeup and talks with a funny made-up accent while the music BOOM BOOM, BOOM BOOM DE DE DE, DE DE DE, BOOM BOOM, BOOM BOOM plays? :p
