Eurovision Song Contest 2010

Glad Romania came third. They were my favourite of the comp and a far superior duet than Denmark.

MaNga's song was a decent rock song. I thought their performance was better in the semi than in the finals, though their "robot's" performance was better in the final, in the semi it looked like she had her helmet fall apart early when the camera was sweeping by, so that in the close up she had to just hold it in front of her and move it to the side but for the final you had a good close up of her taking the helmet off.

As for the UK, one of the SBS commentator said it best, "They have 60 million people and that's the best they can come up with."

Had a laugh when the serial pest got on stage during Spain's performance. Glad that they got to do their song again, I might not have liked it but it would be quite off-putting to have a random invade the stage. That said the singer coped pretty well with it.

When that happened i thought it was just a performer being late to the party it was pretty bizarre but entertaining again.

Man, that was a boring contest compared to previous years. :vulcan: Most of the songs were so nondescript they blended into each other. I had to get my Father Ted DVDs out and drown my sorrows in "My Lovely Horse". Here's to Lordi-like goodness next year!

I liked some of the songs. Turkey, Armenia, couple others (at college so don't have notes I made handy). Lithuania should have gone through just for entertainment value. Russia andUkraine were dire.

The Brit entry tried way too hard, all hooks and no line, before running out of steam. Next year, get Bill Bailey to perform, a song he'll co-write with Brian May, a 3 minute cracker in the style of Bohemian Rhapsody. If thsat don't win, niothin' will! :)

As for Lena, well, I'm over quirky girl singers, like Katie Perry or whatever her name is (we have one in Oz, Missy Higgins, that gives me the irrits).

I do miss the early 2000s though, when there were completely random acts that had me rolling on the floor with laughter.

Lena at the finals reminded me of that Anna Penguin girl who played Rogue in the X-Men movies.

Actually, a serious question came to mind. Now that one of the "Big 4" have won does that mean next year there will be only 24 finalists? Or will they pull a 25th from somewhere, 11 from one semi, or one from a combined group of the losers of both semis?

No, Germany will be perfoming in the final also, because it will be hosting the contest and because its part of the Big 4 still.
And it might be "Big 5" next year, because theres been some rumours floting around, that Russia might me becoming the 5th biggest funder of the contest..

Here some of my views about the ESC 2010:cool::

First of all, I didint like the winning song almost at all. Its only marginally better than last years winners, that I didint like much either.
I think it was mediocore pop song with average singer, and below average performance:(:scream::shifty:
Ive been trying to think of why so many liked it?
Some say it won because:" the artist was cute".
Im sorry, but I noticed few better looking artits on the stage. Besides, this is a song contest:rolleyes:.
Some say it won because " the song was modern".
Wait a moment...if modern equals bad, then I want just oldies but goldies to the ESC:lol:. Or maybe Im too old, being 28, of understanding "modern music"?..beats me.
But many naturally liked this song, and Im perfectly fine with it. Maybe it will grow on me, with time:)
Congratulations to Germany for the ESC victory:beer:!

8. Greece – 140 points
9. Georgia – 136 points
10. Ukraine – 108 points

To the rest of the Top 10 im very satisfied:)
My favorites Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia did very well! Im particulary happy of Georgia, because Sopho had the best vocals of the whole contest:bolian:
The rest of the songs where good also, and so where their perfomances.
Its also nice to see that Germany didint get all of the 12t points, but they went to other songs also.
In overall, quite even points in positions 2-10.
Im so glad that the stinker Russia didint make it to the Top 10.

In overal, I think Norway arranged good ESC, but not great:)
I think Moscow still holds that award.
The visual look and the Logo where fine. I liked much the two video inserts in the semis and I was Ok with the flashmob dance in the final, even though it was too German centered.
(I didint notice any dancers from Helsinki, Bratislava, Moscow, Stockholm..and so on. It would have been nice to have dancing scenes from each of the participant countries..)
Hopefully next year we see better program during the points counting, in the actually stage itself.
I liked the Stage desing this year also, even though it could not compete with the Moscows HUGE LED-stage( no one could). It looks much better on TV, than from the photos, and created enough difference for each of the songs.

I sincerely hope we get a better overrall quality of songs next year. This years first semi was very weak and the second was very good, with almost all the best songs of the year in that one.
And there was some bad ans afwul songs this year:wtf:, like for exsample : Serbia, Russia, Belarus, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania..and the UK, who had a great ballad last year:shifty:.
I hope next year we see more better songs..and singers one the Eurovision:bolian:
Thast all I can think of now.
Feel free to comment my..er..opinions about this years ESC:)

Lowest ever audience in the UK;

Figures

Appears that it's now gone beyond the it's that bad it's funny stage.....

Another few years like this and it'll be on BBC3 where it belongs. :)

Funny thing.. read an article today in the biggest german tabloid about Ralph Siegel and his opinion of the Eurovision.

Mr. Siegel was the composer of the 1st german win in the Eurovision almost 30 years ago and since then has been living off the "fame". He wrote multiple german entrys over the last decade and many of them finished near the bottom so i believe he's become a bit jaded.

He praised the current winner but then immediately launched small barbs against her, the song, the current state of affairs with the Eurovision etc.. talk about a very sore loser because he just can't stomach it that one of Germanys best known entertainers (some love him, some hate him for his sometimes mindless pranks and jokes) "found" her via his own casting show and pushed her to the top.

I realise Germany will be in the final, but since it is a big 4 and will be the previous winner that means there is one less automatic finalist as Germany effectively takes "two spots". So will they make up for this or just have the 20 semis + automatic finalists?
