Eureka & Warehouse 13 Xmas Specials Discussion

Thought I would put out a thread in case anyone wanted to talk about the Eureka and Warehouse 13 Christmas specials on tonight (Dec 7th).

Enjoy!

Santa invades eureka. LOL Looks like Carter's telling of the story still takes place in the altered timeline since Alison's son is still normal.

I'm a big fan of both shows, so I'm really looking forward to these.

The W13 xmas show was cute and harmless, and presumably outside of any show canon, unless we assume it takes place sometime before the s2 cliffhanger.

I'm assuming it simply takes place before the cliffhanger. They've been foreshadowing the thing with Artie's dad for a long time now. It's part of the ongoing story of the characters' lives . . . .

Saw the W13 special; will have to check out Eureka tomorrow.

The W13 one was OK, but got pretty cheesy at the end. Still, hubby and I both enjoyed it, despite the stupid bit there at the mall.

Well, there went two crappy Xmas episodes....cringeworthy and bleurgh. Ah, well. Musn't grumble. Only one Xmas ep per year, after all...

:D

I thought the Eureka one was pretty fun, not neccissarily one of their best episodes but still not bad. I didn't see all of the W13 one, but I feel pretty much the same about what I saw of it .

I'm biased, of course, but I enjoyed the WH13 holiday ep. Haven't checked out the EUREKA one yet.

That part was confusing to me, since it was probably their first Christmas in the new timeline. So Carter made it up, except there was an additional flashback after he was done telling the story, so it really happened, but the kids didn't seem to know jack about it, so what's up with that...

It's just a show, I should really just relax. I loved Dr. Spaceman as Santa, especially.

They were both pretty schmatzy in places, but I expect this from Xmas episodes. I think I liked the W13 one better, but then, I like that show better overall.

Eureka: Taggart's Obsession with Santa Claus had me rolling my eyes every five minutes. And although the appearance of "Santa the Scientist" was still fairly corny, I liked that he didn't look like an old bearded fat guy. (Personal theory: he's a time traveler.)

Warehouse 13: It started off pretty strong, but the resolution was pretty bad; whenever a kid has to beg the monster to release their parent, it's pretty awful, and this was no exception. The subplot was actually better - Judd Hirsch was great, and Claudia, as usual, steals all the scenes she is in. I did find it a little disappointing that, while focusing half the ep on Artie and his dad's reunion, that they couldn't work in some Hannukah traditions. In fact, I'm not sure they even mentioned Hannukah, but maybe they did and I missed it.

I also liked that both eps touched on the ah, unique properties of Fruitcake - but kinda wish W13 had "The Original Fruitcake" as an artifact sitting on a shelf.

Didn't see Warehouse 13, but thought Eureka's Christmas episode was very much in line with the series...lots of fun for me (in between my family interrupting).

Loved the little stuff, like the altered opening.

Maaaan, i miss Eureka. When does it comeback? Didn't they do a MID-season cliffhanger, this time?

There was a Hannukiah in the background, and at the end when Claudia starts to say Grace it's the Hebrew blessing. But in general you're right, I wish they at least acknowledged Hannukah or the fact that Artie doesn't celebrate Christmas. Especially with the episode airing during Hannukah.

The Eureka ep was pretty good, harmless fun as usual. The one thing I couldn't get over is Dr. Spaceman from 30 Rock. I just can't think of him as anything else, even on SNL.

I liked both of them. It was nice to see Taggert back again on Eureka, and Judd Hirsch was great as Artie's dad. I was a little sorry that the Warehouse 13 episode was out of sequence; I thought they might use the Christmas episode to resolve Myka's departure, but I guess they're saving that for next year. In any case, both episodes did a great job of working as many holiday elements as possible into the storyline, but Eureka definitely won in that category; loved the snow globe ending. :D

The whole ending was, in fact, acknowledging that, and I thought it was done with warmth and humor.

Really enjoyed the W13 episode. A lot of very funny lines and moments, like Claudia's brother's reaction to her lying to Artie. The interaction between Artie and his dad was fun, as was the Santa Claus plot.

Hey, where's our Stargate Universe Christmas special? If ever there were a bunch that needed some holiday cheer, it's the Destineers...

\Wray plans a Christmas party aboard the Destiny...
Rush plots to take it over!
Greer refuses to sing Christmas carols...
Col Young gets drunk and whips out his P90 and unloads on the tree plucked from an alien world..
The tree it turns out is sentient! and angered over being tree napped and now shot at, releases it's alien spores of doom!
Eli points out they've already had the alien spores of doom plot this season...

:p

During the WW1 speech of the Warehouse 13 episode, a violin bit played - I know that's from an old song, but does anyone know its name?
