Ethan Peck cast as DSC's Spock

The long hair didn't conveniently obscure his face.
Yes, because that beard makes him look like a whole other person...I know when I grew my beard my wife didn't recognize me anymore.

Seriously. I get your point of view that Spock is Nimoy. I don't share it, and it would be supremely limiting for actors to pretty much be told that you can never revisit a character because only one actor owns it. That defeats the whole purpose of acting and franchises.

The whole point of franchises is to keep them going. Not stop because you need to limit how a character can be performed. Other characters aren’t limited to just one actor. We have multiple Batmen, Supermen, Tarzans, countless Heracles, and god knows how many Sherlock Holmes. Spock is no different. The character stays basically the same, but different actors can bring different things into their performance.

I'm going to assume they cast Peck for a reason. I don't really see "Spock" in him either. But the casting has so far been one of the best things of the show. So I guess there is a reason they specifically picked this guy to play Spock.

That being said: Yeah. I don't really care about rebooting/retconning Spock for the n-th time. There simply isn't that much more to add to the character - be too close to Nimoy-Spock, and they're accused of simply ripping of the original (better) Spock. Stray too far away, and he stops being "Spock" and becomes an entirely different beast.

All in all, I really would have prefered had they just NOT introduced Spock in the first place. Why couldn't Burnham have been the adoptive sister of Xon? They could have done anything with Xon! And people would have applauded them for giving us another, good Vulcan character.

Let's not play that game. Nimoy is the quintessential Spock. I'm good with other interpretations if they are reboots of the character. On Discovery though, which is supposedly Prime, Peck should be the Nimoy Spock.

Wish they did prosthetics on his face to look like Nimoy, instead of the stupid beard to hide his face.

Anson was pitch perfect casting as the Hunter Pike, but they did Spock wrong, at least visually.
*whispers* It is a reboot where everything looks different and the story has been altered, but we're not allowed to acknowledge it or @Tuskin38 gets mad.

Bruce Greenwood had absolutely NOTHING in common with Jeffrey Hunter. They don’t look alike, talk alike or act alike. Yet Greenwood’s Pike was awesome. So you don’t have to slavishly look or act like the character you’re supposed to be taking over from.

It's Spock at a different point in his life, most people are different throughout life. It's called growth. If you stay the same for your whole life, there's probably a serious condition causing it.
Precisely so. I do not understand the need for stagnation of characters when in real life it would be a sign of something concerning that many individuals would be concerned about in their friends.

But, in Star Trek? Nope, has to be exactly the same...
