Eternal Law from the creators of Life on Mars

Well, that was shite. :barf:

Wanted to change channels after 10 minutes; stuck with it for the whole hour. Regretted losing the remaining 50 minutes of my life.

The central conceit of angels and demons battling each other through the criminal justice system could have been viciously played with a lot of snide humour, wit & charm. Instead, we got a plodding typical lawyer drama, with equally pedestrian CGI wings thrown in occasionally. Oh, and pseudo-dramatic camerawork. Yawn.

Angels and demons battling through the human-created legal system? Really?

As they say in the classics, what's wrong with this picture?

So do I sense "It could have been good if done well, but it was ITVed"?

ITV'ed (though from what I hear Downton is good; I just never get round to watching it). Perhaps a better descriptor would just be UK'ed. I think this is the sort of concept done best by the Yanks, to be honest, on one of their cable channels maybe. BBC2 or C4 would have probably still taken the concept a touch too seriously and neither would have injected enough glam. It needed a far wittier & pacier script and direction, which those channels would be fine with, but it also needs a much more glamorous location & cast, better CGI, more acidic lines but also with more schmaltz at its core. And possibly a musical number somewhere in the middle to put the silliness right over the top into nirvana.... in short, it needed Americans. :D

Ugh. Please don't inflict this horrible sounding crap on Americans. :rommie: We get a constant stream of angel cop/lawyer/doctor/etc shows so it's not like we need this sort of thing encouraged. And musical numbers make me want to throw my TV out the window (except when they're very well done - Sons of Anarchy for instance).

Just for fun, here are all the similar sounding shows that are under development (thankfully only a minority will survive until next fall):

Deadman (CW) - small screen take on the DC Comics hero, the spirit of a murdered man who lives on as he inhabits other people's bodies and helps them solve crises in their own lives.

Ghost Ghirls (SyFy) - about two women - Heidi, who has self-proclaimed psychic abilities, and Angelica, who is a tech wiz - who attempt to solve paranormal mysteries each week while trying to prove to themselves and their customers that they are competent ghost hunters.

Haunted (ABC) - drama about a paranormal investigator who each week helps the living move on from a spirit that can't let go.

Maybe Angels (CBS) - a legal show about two angels who help their former spouses.

RIP (NBC) - single-camera comedy about a reluctant angel, a “Kindness Guru” who happens to be an asshole who dies and in order to get to heaven is forced to return to earth and help people with the help of his simple minded brother.

Sleepers (CBS) - drama about a woman who has the gift to save people who are caught somewhere between life and death.

The Spectre (FOX) - drama based on the DC Comics hero, a former cop serving time in afterlife limbo who hunts down earthly criminals on behalf of the dead - and mortals soon to be dead if ultimate justice is not served.

Unearthly (CW), based on the book by Cynthia Hand about a girl who realizes that her destiny is to become an angel.

Untitled I See Dead People Project (CBS) - drama about a female detective who finds she can interact with dead people - the victims of murders she investigates.

Untitled Touched by an Angel Ripoff (CBS) – spiritual drama that centers on an ordinary man making an extraordinary impact on people’s lives.

The Watchers (ABC) - drama about a fallen angel looking for his mortal love.
