Error in New Order Part 2

I'm not sure if this has been posted or not, so I will go ahead and post it.

Did any of you see that there was an error in the Season 8 Premier New Order Part 2.

It was visible at 40 minutes and 52 seconds into the episode, as Walter was reading the message from the President. His name tag read "Davis" instead of "Harriman".

Did anyone else catch the error?

His name wasn't actually established as "Harriman" in spoken dialog until after that, I think. And he was unofficially referred to as "Walter Davis" in a few places prior to that.

Who knows, maybe it's his married name....

There has been a lot of confusion over what his name actually was other than "Walter" until late in the series when the writers settled on Walter Harriman.

Walter's tag said Davis in the first seven seasons. In fact, in seasons 5, 6, and 7 his tag actually says "Norman Davis." I think Zero Hour was the first time the name Walter Harriman was established.

Gary Jones goes on at great leangth about Walter's constantly changing name in several DVD commeantaries. Most notably S6's Descent.

Jack calls him "Walter" in the episode 2010. I'm not sure when "Harriman" was introduced as his last name, but Zero Hour is probably right.

There are conflicting stories about why they changed it from "Davis." There may have been a real air force officer with the name Walter Davis. The producers may have been trying to eliminate confusion over having two characters named "Davis," since there was also Major Davis. And it's also been suggested that somebody misheard Don S. Davis (another Davis!) calling him "Airman" in one episode and thought it was "Harriman."

Eh. Who knows?

There's a joke on the DVDs that the writers must have had a "Davis" button on their computers.

In addition to these, there was also one of the other dialling technicians seen in the second season, listed in the credits as "Technician Davis."

I've always assumed his last name was Walter. I never pay attention to that kind of detail.

That's nothing compared to some of the glaring errors I've noticed in earlier seasons of the show, most notably in Season 2's "Bane", the episode where Teal'c gets stung by the giant alien insect.

On the location they've used to depict the "uninhabited planet", you can quite clearly see traffic moving on the road beyond the glass doors in a few shots.

Maybe the people of that world had automated cars which were still operational?

Yeah, I know it's bullshit. Do you think I care though?

Blame this on MOBIUS and STARGATE: CONTINUUM.

Various episodes take place in slightly divergent timelines.

I'll hold back from commenting on how this could lead to someone's family name being different, but some couples have babies without being married, others rush into marriage because of a pregnancy... :p

I never pay attention to that kind of detail.

You weren't paying attention to the opening scene of Avalon when Walter walked up to Mitchell and identified himself as "Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman."?

I must have. Must have missed all the other episodes where he was referred to by another name.

But, on military bases, everyone is referred to by their last name - which is why, when everyone calls him Walter, I just assumed it was his last name.
